I already look forward to your photos from New Zealand!
........ hardest decision I had to make for this trip was accepting that I could not carry my full size Nikon in with me (fly in mostly walk out) !! So I have been toying with a Nikon1 V1 that seems to take a nice snap yet is 1/3 the size !

We are now 4 days into gun season in Ohio and it has been really slow around here.

Must be your side of the state, over here it's gangbusters.

I've been out on my own property here in Mahoning County a couple of mornings and passed on a few smallerish ones. But have seen trucks loading up all around the neighboring farms and houses all week. In Carroll County one friend took a really nice 8 pointer opening morning and on Tuesday another buddy went out with 5 other guys in Muskingam and between the 6 of them had bagged 10 by 11 am.

I'll be curious to see long term how allowing straight walled cartridge rifles affects the harvest.

Been out 5 times since bow season opened at the end of September, hunting just east of Chardon, OH. Seen very few, but missed a shot on a spikehorn. Maybe just as well?

Looks like the.big body northern strain we have in North AL.

I've hunted this place for years now and I've only killed some does and pencil horn basket racks. I was just shocked how massive he was when I first walked up on him!

Here he is with my son Cooper.

And of course, on the wall.

Deer in northern Alabama tend to be bigger of body, mostly due to imported strains from Michigan, Ohio, etc, brought in decades ago to rebuild the herd.

Southern Al has a more native strain, tends to be smaller bodied.

There are something like 4 or 5 different strains statewide, which also accounts for vastly different ruts based on geographical location

Out archery hunting tonight. Found this old majestic buck dead. It's been awhile. Possibly wounded on the road, or maybe early archery injury. But it could be a fighting injury also. He is very old. Skull size and antler type tell me he is past his prime.

Looks like he was a fighter in his day. I have found a few dead bucks over the years. Always seems a bit sombering. Granted I would have shot them myself but they would have been utilized. Shame to see such an amazing creature rot.

It's not as impressive as the bucks you all are getting, cinnamons are not very common where I hunt so this was a nice little trophy for me.

I've never seen a cinnamon in my part of Texas. I have heard stories of them shot but very rarely. My dad told me of one he shot one time and when they got back to the truck everyone wanted to see it so they started putting birds on the tailgate. He took the cinnamon out of a vest he was wearing and the damn bird popped up and flew off. Said all he could do was laugh. One day I'll get one hopefully!
