How long have you been a knife person?

First knife was a swiss army knife given to me by an uncle. I was maybe 10. 37 years later and still going strong.

Had a Barlow folder when I was about 8...58 now. Used it all the time especially to cut and peel the bark off of tree limbs to make swords, bows and arrows...awesome fun and I can see, in my memories eye, myself making them even now.
In my teenage years I carried two Italian switchblades...punk in a street gang...

I've considered my right of passage, to be when I received a Case #220 Jack Knife, from my Uncle when I was 7 or 8, I had owned knives previously, but I took a liking to this one, and started saving my own money for knives.

35 years give or take.

My first Swiss Army knife as a child while in scouts and camping a lot almost 30 years ago. After that, I was hooked. Started whittling, and begged my dad when I was 7 for a Buck folder. Since then the obsession continues, but I only have one or two customs. Most of my knives are semi customs like BRKTs or Benchmade. I EDC a utility folder and a Kershaw most of the time though.

Working on learning enough to become one. My guess shortly after the new year (2014)

Unless you want to count my Bear Grylls paracord knife purchased in November...but I don't.

I wanted a pocket knife when I was in Kindergarten, but my folks said I had to wait until I was in First Grade. It was an agonizing wait, but I have made up for lost time.

I got my first folder October 1960 on my 6th birthday. Had already been using them before that. Got my first fixed blade for my own (not to just temporarily use) August 1966. It just kinda snowballed from there. I think I have around 60 or 70 folders and I'm pushing 700 fixed blades - swords, bayonets, military, hunting, fishing, specialty. That number does NOT include kitchen knives. That's a different animal and they don't really count.

ETA: also doesn't include any of the hatchets, axes or throwing knives/axes I have.

First off merry Christmas.

Been into knives since I could remember. I was 5 or so when I asked my father for a knife. We were at a gas station and they had slip joints in a box for sale. This one was yellow and had a batman logo on it. I remember not wanting it because it said batman but because it was a knife. I carried it with me everywhere and dropped sadly dropped it one day. I found it two years later in the back yard. The blades were all tarnished and blackened. The knife was all wonky as it looked like it had been run over by a lawn mower's wheel a few times. Not sure were it is at this day but I have been into knives my entire life. Not sure why, never want to hurt people or be violent with them. I just liked them.

P.S. I decided a bit of Absinth on Christmas eve was a fitting night cap.

Since I was about 5 or 6 when my grandmother gave me a small pen knife that she bought for me when she went to Big Bear. I was hooked!:D

Ever since I was 12 or 13, I'm 24 now. I always had a collection of a few knives. I started out with a couple Bucks and Kershaws. I didn't start to EDC a knife until I graduated highschool. And it's only been within the last year or so that I was willing to pay top dollar for high-end knives.

My first knife was a Canadian Centennial knife I got for Christmas in 1967. I was a bit of a slow developer as I was 8 at the time.

I got my first knife over 40 years ago, a Case folding knife. Couldn't have been over 5 years old. Got my first rifle when I was 6--and the knife came well before that. Grew up on a farm, and a knife was a tool used daily. Still live on a farm, and still use knives daily. I could probably count on my fingers the total days of my life I've been without a knife in my left front pocket. High end knives didn't start with me until about 7 years ago. Probably a good thing it wasn't earlier. I could never have afforded to go to college--or anything, for that matter. :D

Now I usually have a Strider s110v SnG in that pocket. It's a real work horse. Rarely needs sharpening. When I do, I take it apart, clean, and Frog Lube it. It's a religious ritual, an act of worship that I do with great solemnity and reverence. ...and then I go back to beating the shit out of it.

I'm 41. My grandfather gave me a Barlow when I was about 8. He and his father and brother were barbers. That's where I get it I think. But both sides of my family have always carried knives. Now I give them to my dad and friends.

Was 6 (1984) and had some money left over in summer camp, got me a 3 inch "hunting knife" with an antler handle. Back then you had to buy what was in a store and without internets no clue about what was a good knife steel etc. With 6 I probably couldn't have read it anyways.
Dad didn't care, he had a few air rifles at that age. Mom wasn't too happy and I have no idea where the knife ended up. My parents probably kept it until I grow up (I'm 35 now) and then lost it during one of our moves. Didn't think about it's whereabouts until now. Maybe I should ask. :D I doubt they remember.

As long as I can remember.

Bought my first hunting knife when I was 7. (you could do that then)

Still have it to this day.

As Long as I can remember.

BTW, I will be eligible for medicaire in the next 4 years - so it's been a while.
