How long to wait

It would be early to leave feedback. Right now it is barely late, and sometimes there will be no tracking info. Keep in contact with the seller. In the end it is his(or her) responsibility to see you get the item. Not that you have a lot of recourse if it does not, with f&f other than outing them.

I'd give it until the end of the week, because as others have noted, USPS is flaky as hell. I've had this happen and the package is delivered with no further scans. I've had packages "out for delivery" delayed because "delivery attempt failed," when I was home all day and know damned well no attempt was made. I've determined that's shorthand for, "carrier got tired and decided to knock off early."

That is why it is very important to hand any package directly to a clerk and get it scanned in - don't just drop it off or have it picked up without the initial scan.
Yes simply handing off isn’t good. I never would give to a carrier tbh. That’s the easiest way for a theft. USPS claims most their losses comes from within
I always create my own shipping labels and have my packages good to go when I get to the PO. I also always stand in line to get a receipt despite occasionally being tempted to just drop off due to longish waits.

Scanning for tracking purposes has been spotty the last couple years since everything got turned on its ear, but I hope the OP's package just mysteriously shows up as a few of mine have, though I've not had any not show at least acceptance.

As far as F&F goes, I'll still not make any purchases thusly despite that becoming more the norm due to PP reporting practices.

Yea I hope it just shows up also.

As far as F&F, I ask for it in my listings so I guess I cannot complain to much about that, although I do check feedback scores etc before sending money

When your carrier picks it up they are supposed to scan it as a “prepaid acceptance” scan. That is the protocol. You should at least get hub scans. There is no way around that. Everything is automated at the post office.

I've been waiting for a package from CA to NY for about a month.
The first hub scan showed up 3 weeks after label creation. During those 3 weeks I assumed it was lost.

Now it's been bouncing around between Mass and NY since 2/22.
It made it all the way to the next town ( 5 miles away) on 2/23 then was routed back to Springfield Mass on 3/1, then back to a hub in NY and this morning it shows as received by my local post office.
What a ride!

But the record is 6 months, the last scan was a departure scan at a hub about 10 miles away, and then it fell off the radar.
I forgot about it and the date for a PayPal refund passed. It showed up 6 months later. It was from CA too.

OP - glad to know your package shows movement. I had this only once - a package from "label created" to "out for delivery" within like one day.

On a side note, I hesitate to fully insure high-value items in fear of it being an invitation to theft by inside people.

This is kind of silly. Not all postal workers are bad. Plus the “product information” isn’t available to the average employee.

Where did I say or imply ALL postal workers are bad? The insurance fees are usually shown on the package based on which the value of the item can be inferred. Many thieves steal things because these things have high value not because what these things actually are.

I’m sorry, I wasn’t implying you think that. My mistake. I was just stating that.
At my post office we 43 routes but we are only 1/2-3/4 staffed on a daily basis. That is a HUGE reason for delays in our district.

can't say how it happened, but I've gotten 2 package from Great Neck NY to Florida that only showed label made and then showed up days later at my local office and listed as out for delivery.....nothing in between.....think this happened similar to the op.....

proof to show im not making this up or exaggerating......

I just had the same exact thing happen on three knives I shipped out late last week. All of them showed that I created the labels, then nothing until out for delivery today.

yep. other packages I got had scans all over from place to place and leaving the starting point. somehow some postal folks and automated setups are getting around the scanning system...cause its happening......

I shipped out a few items last year. I normally drop them off at my local post office and the guy always scans it in. I had a person pay late, so I stopped by a post office near a restaurant I went to for lunch. I dropped it off to the person and walked away. The package wasn't scanned in for 3 days. I can't say I'm surprised at what happened to you.

All good no worries. I trust 99.99% postal workers as I shipped and received hundreds if not thousands of packages and never had one lost. It's just occasional stories of expensive packages got lost in transition by others make me concerned. Delays are not a big issue to me at all.
