Do you guys wait after someone says they'll take it do you give them to pay before you put the item back up for sale? I had a guy say he'd take a knife of mine and to send him my paypal address. Well, I did and 3 days later I've still not got payment. And, he's still logging in to the site and actually has even been saying he'll take other knives in other threads since mine. I've tried e-mailing the guy, but I get no response.

I would say if paypal was to be used 2-3 days is long enough, money order a little lead time is needed and communication is key. Give him a few emails and if no response I would say relist it, just my opinion though. Good Luck

3 days is plenty of time. You could try sending him a PM just in case his email is not working but it doesn't sound like the buyer is going to come through for you. :thumbdn:

24 hours if no response, unless an arrangement was stated.

Once you commit to 'I'll buy it" it becomes incumbent upon you to follow through with haste.

The selling opportunity is largely affected by timing, and a pause for a potential sale beyond this, defends the speculator while penalizing the seller.

YMMV.

I think exposing the "buyer" would also be helpful to other members who may be dealing with him in the future. We don't want another PachaasPaisaa...

I think the time you allow for payment should be spelled out in your sale post, or clarified with the buyer when you respond to his "I'll take it" by sending your paypal addy. If you don't, that puts you in a harder place as far as pulling the purchase away from him.

I also think that in a case where you don't specify, you can use the buyer's activity as a guide. If he is online frequently and buying other stuff, it would be reasonable to expect him to respond quickly to you if you request payment. If he is not online, he may be unavailable, so you would probably need to give him more time to respond.

Like in so many other cases, it is best to clarify things like inspection/return privileges, when you expect payment, etc. in the beginning. Hope this all works out for you.

Are these other knives the same type? Maybe he's trying to shop for the lowest price w/o losing his place in line.

I agree. Unless you have a conversation with the buyer, and you expressly agree to hold an item for a certain period of time, the buyer has no exuse to not pay within 24 hours. After that . . . you snooze, you loose!

Try ordering something from a web site without paying and asking them to hold it and see how it gets you!

No, it was another type of knife. The guy's name is crcornish. At this point, I don't think he's going to send me the money.

If he didn't follow-up the "I'll take it" post with an immediate PM, I'm already figuring something is shady with the guy.

24-hours is more than generous.

crcornish is the type of person that needs to be diligently banned from BF so his actions don't reflect on the majority of honest buyers/sellers here.

I expect contact within 24 hours as well as payment. That is what I do, when I say "I'll take it", I communicate ASAP and let the seller know my intentions right then and there. I've asked for a seller to hold an item (wait until payday) and they have been excellent about it (A.P.F.).
At this point, I'd say you definitely have a flaker. Make sure that you mark your sale thread "SPF" not SOLD. Personally, I will always give someone the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason to not trust. I'd go ahead and relist the item when the guidelines permit. We are only ever as good as our word.

Well, I always pay right away. But, then again, I always eat my own Paypal fees, too. So, not everyone does things the way I do them. Oh well.

It is incumbent upon the profferer of "I'll take it" to contact the seller immediately.

I've commited to buy a few times and in each instance I've contacted the seller post haste. Only once did I request a delay beause I had MOs inbound.

I've had buyers contact me immediately and relate a condition precluding immediate payment and I'm perfectly OK with that.

I've had others say "I'll take it" and not contact me, not respond to my attempts to contact them via several channels, and they're obviously not going to follow through on the commitment.

I agree with the 24 hour buffer, people do have lives.

I do not agree with having to spell out conditions which should be a presumed manner of conducting business, be it personal or professional.

Communication is the key, those that choose to conduct their transactions in an overly cavalier fashion constitute the bulk of my "ignore" list

Well, I don't know if this thread did it or what... but, 4 days later, I got payment this morning. I guess I've learned to put a disclaimer in my threads saying I either need immediate payment, or arrangements need to be made with me beforehand.

If it were me (and take this from an avid buyer, not seller) I would state in every listing that you have xxx amount of time to make payment from the time you throw out the "I'll take it."

To me 3 days is more than enough and honestly, to me it's too much. I personally consider it my obligation to you (the seller) to get payment to you immediately as it's the right way to do business.

I usually buy knives early in the morning before I go to work. If I have not received a response by the time I leave, I make it a point to check multiple times throughout the day.

It is (in my belief) my obligation as a good buyer to get your payment to you as fast as possible to help you complete your transactions and to remember me as a good customer next time I post "I want it."

If I were selling they would have 24 hours and no longer.

Just my 2 cents.

I talked to the buyer. He's new, and he didn't really understand what we consider to be a polite payment time-frame. I think he'll do better with communication, etc. in the future.
