How many and how much ?

Third, it would take something seriously and grotesquesly wrong for the Govt, ANY govt, to come in and shake us down in our homes, taking anything "they" don't think we should have. If it ever came to that, it's past the time to start shooting.

Amen! I'll be next to you on the front line if it comes to that.

I think it might not be the best idea to post detailed lists of what guns you have online. If for some reason we do end up in a situation where the feds are rounding up our guns, there's no need to make things easier for them by giving them laundry lists of what to look for!

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I dunno.............you'd think that, if everything posted online can be believed, that all the SEALS, Special Forces, SWAT team members, etc, are expected to own a gun or two !

No one is asking for specific guns that are actually owned, just what you think would be a good idea.

Amen! I'll be next to you on the front line if it comes to that.

We'll take turns loading for each other ! ;)

The only firearm I own is a 6" .357 that I keep loaded with some of those Black Talon loads that were pulled from shelves a couple years ago. My "stockpile" of ammo is a few hundred rounds sitting in a box. Very adequate (IMO) if someone wants to enter my residence without my blessing.

Maybe some better questions would be: why are you so paranoid that some jackbooted guv'ment thugs stealing all your guns away? Why do you think the upcoming election is going to be the precursor to this? Do you often find yourself daydreaming of stalking from one bombed-out building to the next with your arsenal strapped to your back after some bizarre TSHHTF scenario? Have you taken your doctor prescribed candies lately?

By "semi-auto" not allowed, I presume you mean semi-auto rifles. Bummer!

Correct....No semi-auto rifles or shotguns

When I first read this, the rounds of ammo read "2000", but when I looked again, a zero was missing.....so please confirm, only TWO HUNDRED rounds per gun is allowed?

correct again.......

And that, sir, is the topic of another thread! Or even trimming it down to four, as you had to do. I encourage you to start it, citing the realities you actually have to deal with there.

.

I will start that thread soon.... as a newbie here do you recommend I post it here or in Prac/Tac?

It's simply an intellectual exercise to reveal what peoples choices would be.
David placed those parameters on the thread so that people would think along certain lines...... Do you really think he imagines that would happen??

It sounds like it's you who needs the meds......

Oh, I don't know...........

History?

The UN Global Ban on small arms Obama has already proposed?

If you lived in Illinois, you couldn't have that revolver.

I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban.

How soon New Orleans is forgotten....

If you never shoot it, then I suppose any gun with any amount of ammo is "very adequate" in their opinion. One wonders how you can be so conceited to think that you would be able to stop an armed assault, if they never practice......

I suppose you're aiming these questions at me and some good responses to them have already been made, but I'll answer them anyway

As has already been pointed out, REMEMBER KATRINA? Remember law abiding citizens being forcibly disarmed? Check out the video of 4-5 of them taking down that old lady.

Kalifornia has also confiscated guns, as has New York City.

Perhaps you should do a modicum of research on the subject.

Why do you think the upcoming election is going to be the precursor to this?

Right now, it looks like the democrats might win more seats in Congress.......possibly obtaining a veto-prood majority in the Senate. Add to that, democrats have a long track record of enacting bad gun laws. Obama has a worse one. He'd ban your .357 in a heartbeat and made votes and proposals to that effect. Other dems would do the same and have smugly said so. Are you one of the "elitist idiots" that think they're talking about everyone's gun but yours?

Yeah, I kinda thought so.

Versitility is paramount in any situation where your life and liberty are in question. For this reason alone the 30-06 is a fantastic round because of it's ability to take down anything from the lowly D.E.A. Agent to the elusive but extremely deadly Jackbooted Guv'ment Thug. Several thousands of rounds are recommended fr storage, everything from 55 grain ball rounds to 220 grain armor-piercing slugs for the nastier targets.

No, handguns just won't do in a situation where a confused and wounded D.E.A. Agent encroaches on your property! These types are sly, but very lethargic. Not enough "stopping power" with most modern handgun cartridges, even if they are an easy target. The only time I'd advice a handgun cartridge being used is when you're faced with a National Guard, but only if they are alone and not in packs.

Rioters, lower-socioeconomic types, Gun Grabbers, and other unsavory prey can be dealt with fairly easily with .45 ACP or 40 S&W. A rifle may be overkill in most situations, so a reliable Smith & Wesson M&P or 1911 will take case of most of these types. As with anything, always proceed with caution, comrade, and YMMV................

How soon New Orleans is forgotten....

Not forgotten by me. In fact, it was one of the underlying elements to the scenarios presented.

But I framed it as a NATIONAL disarmament, not a local one. Still, it's an extremely valid point to make.

Friend, you've got your eyes firmly shut. And that's your choice.

The rest of us here choose to keep our eyes open. And that's our choice.

If something catastrophic ever happens, my advice to you is to make sure you keep those eyes shut real tight....remember, under no circumstance should you try to defend or even help yourself.

Sooner or later, the goverment will come along and "help" you.

I've often wondered how far the gov could go in this country before there started being "civil disobedience" or a few people who started shooting before letting go of their guns. I think their are probably whole states that would refuse to enforce certain laws and certainly many counties would.

The problem is they're sneaky and most of us don't pay enough attention. I live in Ca and was caught by surprise at that POS law the governator signed about cartridge stamping (what a joke!). They also seem to be going at it sideways since they know that the constitution really does guarantee us the right to bear arms by going after ammo. There is current legislation pending to limit each person to 50 rounds a month!

It really amazes me what crap they dream up- what would that law possibly accomplish? Their goal is that the paperwork would drive stores out of the ammo business.

One thing about Katrina was, it was a "then and there" kind of thing. There were no laws being proposed, debated, voted upon and enacted. Nope, just one or two people in charge decided to disarm law abiding citizens.

I am not sure if those peope were aware of that turn of events prior to getting a knock on the door. What then? That's a bad time to consider your options. Sobering thoughts on that one....

Meanwhile, exactly 3 years later, 100's of guns still have not been returned to their rightful owners.

That's right, symphonyincminor, it's only paranoia.........nothing to worry about.......go back to sleep........

My pistol of choice is the 1911. At this point I have twelve magazines, three of which are always loaded. I like to have at least 500 rounds.

I had a Garand but had to sell it. I'll be getting myself another in a couple of months. I like to keep a couple of hundred loaded on stripper clips and I'd like to keep at least 1000 rounds on hand.

I have a .22lr rifle and pistol. I have two magazines for the pistol and three for the rifle. I don't really feel the need for more. I have 5000 rounds at home, although I'd be more comfortable with 10000.
