The absolute minimum?
-a reasonably accurate high powered rifle with a scope (bolt or semi)
-- Meaning, something in .30 caliber, which could be called on for hunting mainly, or self defence secondarily.

-a 12 gauge shotgun
--An 870 Remington pump, with the long barrel for hunters, or a short one for home defenders

-a pistol
-- in .38 Special for the genteel crowd, or in .45 ACP for the rest of us
-- Beginning shooters and little people should start with a .22LR, however.

You will need a holster for each pistol, slings for each rifle and shotgun, and plenty of ammunition for each weapon. Cleaning rods, brushes and fluid will round this effort out.

Firearms are something like golf clubs. You want the right one for the right job.
 
AR-15, spare parts kit, at least 50 good mags and 2-10,000 rounds

AK-47, spare parts kit, 20-50 good mags and 2-10,000 rounds

Glock 17, spare parts kit, 20-50 good mags and 2-10,000 rounds

S&W .357 with 2-10,000 rounds

12 Ga. Pump shotgun with 2-10,000 shells

Bolt action in 30. 06 300 winmag or .338 Lapua topped with S&B or Nightforce scope and 2-10,000 rounds

A belly gun of some sort, snub .38, .410 derringer, something I could have in my pocket all the time.

Along with that I would have an armor setup with SAPI plates, mag pouches, a holster for each sidearm, slings for the longs, binoculars, LRF, NVD, and my survival gear.

I'd want all of this set up and ready to go at a moments notice, throw it in the truck and I'm gone.
 
Then there are guys like me. I'm an infantry vet, but also a felon. On top of that I live in CA. If this scenario, or worse unfolds, my brain is my greatest weapon and has no need for ammo (maybe cigs and coffee and copenhagen). I am very confident that I could improvise explosive devices as well as traps. That is how I will score my ballistic weapons.
