How many blades do you actually carry?

My daily carry consists of a small fixed blade or folder (3-4"), & a SAK/Leatherman on my person. I always have my Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon with me and it holds a SAK, 4" folder, & a RC-5 strapped to it. This is my everyday gear, if I go camping I will add a larger carry fixed blade like my Fiddleback Ladyfinger.

Checked my pockets and pack and this is what I came up with:

Clockwise from top: Breeden Bushcrafter, Koyote Sgian Dubh, CRKT KISS, and Leatherman Juice. I thought I had a SAK with me as well, but it seems to be missing.....

Usually it's 3 for me: Fixed blade knife on belt, Izula on pack strap, Vic OHT or Farmer. Other small blades I don't really count (Leatherman skeletool and micra in pack, vic classic on keychain).

Sometimes I'll bring a mora or crooked knife along. If I'm going off-trail or doing maintenance I'd want a chopper and/or saw in the pack. In those cases I guess it'd be four.

EDC I've usually got 2, a folder and Vic Farmer (not counting classic on keychain).

For EDC, I generally have an Izula and I always have my Vic Farmer (Plus my leatherman micro on my keychain, but that hardly counts). For hiking/camping, I use my trio: Koster bushcrafter, Vic Farmer, and CS Trail Hawk.

I finally came around to the hawk idea, after hearing Rick talk about how much he likes them. So, I took out the trail hawk, reworked the edge, and started bringing it. And, it grew on me. It's pretty light weight, and with the hammer poll, it's a really multi-purpose tool (Chopping and pounding).

Three.

My EDC, which is on my at all times, my belt knife, and a Leatherman Wave, which rides in the sheath of my belt knife.

If I'm on a longer outing, or if I intend to do some trail maintenance, I'll add a chopper or axe.

All the best,

- Mike

Typically three or four. Like others, I usually have a couple of kit or back-up knives stored away in nook in crannies. There is always a SAK hanging about, a neck knife and a striker tucked away somewhere. I have my main belt knife and then some kind of chopper, whether it is a big knife or axe.

Then there are those times when I'm out there really for the purpose of playing with steel and taking some pictures or doing a review. Often the pack will be bloaded with steel. I try not to do killer hikes under these circumstances.

For me normal edc is 2 blades bm 960 in the pocket and endura 4 in the bag/briefcase. When I go walkabout either a big ol khuk a machette or a hatchet for chopping. In addition the rc-4 rides drop leg with a smaller boot knife in the boot and a folder in the bag for food (cleaning fish and whatnot)

So 2 normally 4 in the bush

In most cases one, small sized simple fixed blade with firesteel attached to the sheath.
Add small kitchen knife, saw, machete, ax depending on the type of field and activity.

Once I forgot to wear a belt knife on a hike and needed to cut some cord. No knife. Since then I've always carried a SAK Hiker in my PSK, which goes with me on all hikes. I (almost) always have a belt knife along as well. The belt knife could be anything from a small scandi, a bushie, a Busse/Swamprat with up to an 8" blade, or a 12" machete.

Spyderco Native, and Benchmade 707 in my pockets as I type.
My briefcase has a Kabar Army, NWA Woodsman, Swamp Rat
Camp Tramp and a SAK.

I like that Koyote Sgian Dubh !!!

For woods stomping, I usually have two knives with me; SAK Adventurer and SOG Seal Pup Elite PE. Sometimes I may take the SOG Revolver Hunter with me if I feel a saw blade may come in handy, but still only two. Hunting, I'll have three with me, sometimes four; SAK Adventurer, Remington Bullet Knife (muskrat pattern), sometimes a Buck 110, and a medium fixed blade that I feel like carrying. A 12" Ontario machete also finds it home with me in the late summer if I'm scouting.

Sort of depends, if I am going on a short walk, or a walk that is often walked by the many then most likely it will be a LM wave in a day pack, or an a belt but probablt in the day pack.

If I am going a a longer walk, one that takes more time, more challenging terrain or where people are less liely to be around then in addition to the LM I will take my personalised, cutom made fixed blade, either on belt or on day pack straps (its about 10 and a half inches, half recurve D2 blade and half handle (tan G10).

However I have just ordereda M43 khukri, so when that arrives I imahine I will probably be looking for excuses to take that, maybe not a on a short hike but certainly on a long one.

Sometimes I am just taking knives, because I want to play with them, or I got a new one, and I want to try it out, in addition to what I would normally take.

But, given normal circumstances, not winter for instance, when I would take a Bahco Bowsaw and a GB Felling Axe, to make sure I had the wood cutting worked out....

I would take....

Kershaw branded version of the Bahco Laplander folding saw, Bill Siegle Cutlass, Vic Locksmith in my fire kit, Vic One Hand Trekker, and a small Fixed Blade (like my Kellam S Line, Cold Steel Finn Bear or a Spyderco Moran Drop Point).

average of 5 - 10 blades, mix of folders and fixed. the more the merrier, the more blades the more fun!

Normal days it is usually 2. A Kershaw G10 Tyrade alternates with a ZT 301 as my large folder.

A Kershaw Barrage is my small (and lower sheeple alert) second knife that is sometime rotated out with a Kershaw Boa, D2 Griptilian or Spyderco Endura.

If hiking add a Spyderco Rock Salt. If camping add a Kershaw Outcast or Becker BK9.

It is overkill but I usually believe in having and not needing over a chance of needing and not having.
