How many blades do you actually carry?

Right now at the office I've 3 with me. A Kershaw Skyline is clipped to my pocket, but that changes about weekly. In my messanger bag/briefcase I have a Bark River Gaurdless Snowy River and a LM Wave.

If I'm day hiking its just a 3"-4" fixed blade (now either a Mora or Snowy River) and the Wave or a Vic Farmer.

If I'm backpacking and want a fire I'll add a fiskers hatchet or saw.

  • Average EDC = 1 folder, 0 fixed, 0 axe - My "every days" are pretty much office work and wandering urban areas, so I just never have felt the need for more than one folder for EDC. Usually a 3.0 - 3.5 inch lockblade of slippie.
  • Casual Dayhike = 1-2 folders, 0-1 fixed, 0 axe - I generally keep a SAK of some sort in my daypack so that's always with me. In addition, I will often have a folder or more rarely a small (3.0-3.5 inch) fixed blade on my person.
  • Overnight Camping = 1-2 folders, 1 fixed, 0-1 axes - I'm talking about week end trips of 2-3 days, here. Again, I'll have a SAK of some sort in my pack, and a small-medium (3.0-5.0 inch) fixed blade, and quite often a second folder on my person.
  • Extended Wilderness = 1-2 folders, 1 fixed , 1 axes - Here, I go with the fill "trio" of a SAK, a medium sized fixed blade (4.0-5.0 inches) and a large hatchet or small axe (15-20 inche haft). I'll almost always have a second folder, too, usually a stout lockback or larger slippie like a Syderco Military or Case Trapper.
Of course, if I've got a new toy or two to play with, I may well toss that into my pack, too, but that is above and beyond the "working" knives I have along. ;)

EDC - CRKT M16-01T folder

Wilderness trip of any length -either an F1 and Sawvivor or just an A2

If I'm just woods bumming usually just two, a 4ish" fixed blade and whatever folder was in my pocket before I left.

If it's a larger hike or a camping trip, then I usually will do one of my combo's which is either a JK Kephart/JK Pocket Kephart or Chopweiler/Swamp Warden. Then my Reeves hatchet and again whatever pocket knife is in my pocket, usually either a paramilitary or my GEC Tidioute Scout. So, 4.

Lately (last few months) it's just been a folder or my small fixed blade (around 3" blade). Before that, I would normally have my EDC in my pocket (a folder) and a small fixed on the belt with about a 4" blade.

I just about always have my saw with me, though, and sometimes a hatchet.

I used to carry a minimum of three knives with me everywhere, but that got old fast. I also used to carry a bunch of knives in the woods with me, but that got to be alot of clutter to keep track of. I really don't use my knife that often, so I have resorted to carrying a fairly lightweight blade that won't burden me when its not in use.

Generaly out in the woods 3 on me. My H.I. M-43 kukri, A belt knife, H.I. R-10 or RAT RC4 or another of similar size. And a folder as a backup.

In town I'm usualy wearing my RC4 and carrying 1 or two slippies. Sometimes a tactical folder goes instead of the RC4.

Day hike? usually 2 - folder or sak and a belt knife.

Distance backpacking - 1.

Just going out into the woods as an excuse to muck about and use knives - 3-5.

For me, my edc is my LM Wave, Izula and my SAK Farmer. So three for edc. When I go camping and hiking I add my Puukko and a folding saw.
