How many carry a multi tool & fixed blade every outting?

I almost always carry a multi tool and fixed blade out in the wild. I find the pliar-based tools way more useful than SAKs, but that is me and based on my experience carrying both over the course of many years and many trips.

I normally carry a Leatherman Wave or Gerber Multi-tool with any one of the following knives, depending on what I plan to do and how long I plan to be out:

ESEE Junglas
ESEE 4
ESEE 6
CS SRK Carbon V
Condor Rodan
Fallkniven A1

I used to carry a SAK (Huntsman - a good knife), but the Leatherman Wave is much more comprehensive. I also EDC a Trailmaster and these go in my large camera bag (Kata 3n1-30).

In my pocket for the last 13 years i EDC a Spydie Delica (serrated). However, last night i bought a CS American Lawman to retire the Spydie.

So,

Leatherman Wave
Trailmaster
American Lawman

I do. Spyderco Aqua Salt + Victorinox OHT. Lightweight and versatile. If I think I'd have a use for it, or I just feel like swinging it around, I'll bring a chopper too.

A Gerber M600 everytime, & either a 11 Bravo from Ray Ennis or the ESEE-4 for most of our day hikes. Camping always have the Junglas & either of the above two plus the M600. Not enough knives yet to really switch around, but working on it. . . :)
Be safe.

When I go outdoors, my combo is a Vic Spirit multitool and a fixed blade - either a Mora 510 or my SDS Nessmuk. Most of my camping is done via motorcycle, so the multitool is handy for quick adjustments on the bike rather than digging out the tool kit. It is also handy for camp stuff, like potholding, can and bottle opening, etc.

When I am not camping, my edc is almost always the Vic Spirit paired with a dedicated cutter (folder, slipjoint, or very small fixed blade).

My wander-about setup is a Leatherman skeletool and SAK (huntsman). If there's any chance of spending the night in the woods (purposefully or not) I add a GL Drew "chopper" / camp knife to my pack.

I carry a SAK on the belt, usually a Swisschamp XLT, and a MT in the pack. For the past 10 years it has been a Wave. When I need a full sized pair of pliers, I really need them.

I've actually found myself slimming down to just my camper both for EDC and short woods walks. It helped me make a fire last time out.

leatherman wave is always with. so is a fixed blade(usually more than one....) tho when out of doors they can change from outing to outing/situation to situation.

I'll always have a fixed blade, folder, multi tool and folding saw. Past that, things vary, but those are pretty much with me every time I am afield.

Hi all,

Here is mine:D.

My EDC is a Leatherman Wave & Victorinox Cybertool 34, so when I go camping I just add a small & large fixed blade (varies but typical would be Mora + BK-9).

I was thinking about slimming down my camping gear a little and will have my Victorinox Ranger by Xmas. If I carry fixed blades + Ranger then I wont have pliers on me, but I will have saw, file, 2 blades, scissors, can opener, bottle opener, tweezers, etc. I'll probably take the LM Wave for the first couple of times and see if I find myself needing it, if not then I'll stick with fixed blades + Ranger.

I'm pretty sure all of us carry a fixed blade knife outdoors. I usually carry a multi tool as well. Out of the ones I have, I settled on the Leatherman Blast because it's full size with a good set of tools, but only weighs 6 oz.

In my EDC "woods and town" setup I have for my pack I carry a Victo. Swiss Spirit, and a bunch of different knives, including an Opinel No. 8, Boker Wharcom, ESEE-3, ESEE-6, Condor Rodan, and a CS K5 Neck Knife (along with a tiny Epicurean cutting board.) When I'm actually going into the woods I also always have some sort of machete or another. I know that's a lot of blades, but I have a hard time cutting it down at all! :p

SAK and fixed blade in pack. Always.
I do have a few hip rigs with a larger blade and a multi-tool in pouch. So again. Always.

Here are the basics that go every time...

  • Victorinox Swisstool
  • Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet
  • Bark River STS-3

These are always there to cover my bases. They are everything I feel like I need in the wilderness.

In addition to that, I often bring some other toys just to play around with, but these are my most used, trusted, relied upon tools.

I usually have (at a minimum) a folder (Benchmade Ritter Grip lately), and a SAK (Victorinox Climber). In my pack I often have a Gerber Multitool or Leatherman, and for walks in the woods, a fixed-blade like my Benchmade Rant or ESEE 3-MIL.

Not always. Seems a constant is my Farmer though. Sometimes I'll pair that with a fixed blade, sometimes I'll pair it with a hawk, sometimes all three. Though in nice weather I'll sometimes just carry the Farmer. And maybe next time I won't carry the farmer. :D
