How many custom knives do you have?

No collector ever has enough. But I do try to work on the quality of my collection all the time. If I stop buying then I stop meeting all the makers and away goes my fun. How many, not enough.

Joss,
It seems a little odd that you started this thread but didn't specify the number of customs you have. I have about 20.

AF,

Fair point. I'm not at my place, and I'm concerned I would over / under estimate. Probably around 30, maybe as many as 40.

Pure customs, about 100 +/-. I have been collecting for 20 years.
Best Regards,

Right now I have eight. In a few weeks I will have another and then in spring another. At this time I am generally getting 2 or 3 a year.

You're killing me here. As much as I hate to think about it, I love to think about it too. I'm somewhere between 50 and 60 customs- all folders.
A good half of that is just Obenauf and Terzuola. The rest is Lightfoot, Hinderer, Mayo, Ralph, Smith, Duncan, Crawrford, Irie, Dozier and I can go on and on. Of course i can't forget about about Carson- only one! They are all great!

It is funny how fast they can add up. :) I have a mix of folders and hunters with a bowie or two in the mix.60+ for me.

I have to agree with Danbo.........no idea. :o
Me too. Final count is unknown (same reason as Danbo). But I do know that my Bob Lum's are at 102 from the inventory last week. :D

I don't want to count. I think I have about 20 or so. I do know that I have 4 on order. Are you guys listening? You know who you are.
:D

Collect mostly folders only and try and hold the line at 100. Buy one=Sell one. :(

PS; Got no Lum's. Tony's got the all! ;) :D

I don't collect for alot of years yet (about 2 years) and I'm on 10+ and counting. There are 4 more on the way in the coming year. And I agree with all the others it is and will never be enough.

As far as a custom knife collection goes, in my opinion it is not the quantity but the quality of the collection.

For me I have too many knives; I don't want to invest the time or energy in maintenance. I like them all too much to sell, but I don't like worrying about tarnishing, shrinking handles, oiling, and waxing. There are certainly pieces that I would love to add to my collection, but upkeep is always on my mind when considering a purchase. I'm not at capacity, but I will eventually limit my additions based on what I can take care of and what I want to take care of.

I would feel terribly guilty if I let a knife deteriorate that a maker invested himself in. That mostly stems from my views on the knives I make; they are my children and should be cared for :) ;).

Well, not quite 'all'. ;)
Yeah. According to Bob I should only have about 5% of his total output. Which means there's another 95% I have to get. :D :p

Lots. 50/50% fixed and folders for customs. With the addition of many production and kit knives, I own over 100 total.

After I speak to Bob Lum at the NYC Show, the number will increase again..... :)
