How many do you own - and why

...as well as the knife an NVA stabbed me in the thigh with during H2H combat one night. That one appears to be made out of some leaf spring material, but has the NVA star stamped on it"

Wow!!! That's gotta be a first.

Is it for sale and how much:D

Kershaw Blur Desert Tan-Fun knife to open and close, recurve is great for slicing up stuff.
ZT0350TS--Its beefy and fun to open, good hard use knife. Got it cheap.
LionSteel SR-1A--Monoblock aluminum handle, D2 blade, got a good price on it, fun to open and close.
Spyderco Gayle Bradley--My first foray into a +$100 knife and super steel. Love the look and feel, great all purpose blade.
Strider SnG Lego--My first foray into high end knives, love the look, feel, design, and ergos. Its one beast of a knife.
Brian Tighe Mini Tighe-Rod--My first custom. Sheeple friendly looking, cool blade design, fun to flip. My favorite office carry knife.
Benchmade D2 Mini-Griptilian--Love D2, great all around knife.
Benchmade Griptilian--same reason as the mini.
Benchmade 162--Great camp knife, thick spine, great ergos. Sheath is deerskin and has a fire starter rod holder.
Spyderco Dragonfly ZDP-189--Needed a knife small enough to carry in the city (2.5" max blade length by law), wanted to try out this steel (which I love).
Spyderco Schempp Tuff--Wanted a chopper/kukri style knife that wasn't huge.
Benchmade 530 Pardue--Very thin, disappears in the pocket, great when wearing slacks or a suit etc. Bought the black bladed combo edge, wish I had the plain edge.
SOG Pentagon Elite 1--I had this knife 15+ years ago when I was in high school, loved it, lost it, finally bought it again this summer, really wish I hadn't bought it.
SOG Mini X-Ray Vision--Birthday gift when I was 19, has stood the test of time but nothing really special about it. I've retired it as its been sharpened so much its all out of whack.
SOG Trident Tanto Tini--Wanted something tacticool, got a good price, but mediocre at best.
SOG Flash 1--No idea why I own this knife.
SOG Seal Pup TS--Great ergos, good edge retention, I've beat this knife up and it just comes back for more.
Cold Steel Recon 1--Great ergos, good price, great lock.
KaBar US Army 9/11 Commerative--Bought this on a whim. Plan to sell it soon. Never used it, just took out of the sheath a few times.
Bear and Son Damascus double edge fighter--Thought it was cool looking. Never used it, had it probably 3 or 4 years now. Plan to sell.
ESEE Izula--Bought with the "survival" kit. Bought it because I'd heard a lot of good things about it. Love it, great little knife.
CRKT M16-12Z-Bought it before I knew anything about knives, its a POS. Blade has more chips than Frito-Lay.

How many? A lot, I own a lot. Why? Well, because they keep making them and someone has to buy them.

I bought an empty/vacant lot once and couldn't find one knife on it anywhere. :D

How many? I've carried 3 today, so the answer must be 3. That number could change at anytime, and changes fast during sales, close outs and what the heck impulse buying. :D

For me the only knives I own are as follows. I am not a fan of having knives I dont use so I sell off any I dont use much.

Leahterman Fuse (for backpacking, kayaking, fishing, canoeing, etc.)
Leatherman Sidekick (in my survival kit)
Spyderco Delica 4 (EDC)
SAK Camper (Alternate EDC)
Spyderco Endura 4 (large EDC; dont carry it much)
Fallkniven S1 (Kayaking/Canoeing fixed blade)
Swamp Rat RMD (Dayhiking/backpacking; preferably summer backpacking one account the smaller blade)
Esee RC-6 (Medium Backpacking blade)
USMC Kabar (Car knife; been meaning to upgrade this.)
Scrapyard 711 w/ Spec Ops Combat Master (Large backpacking blade for trips 2+ nights; Fuse rides in the sheath pocket)

I have been looking to get a chopper for Kayak camping, it will probably end up being a Junglas.
I will probably end up getting a F1 since I really enjoy my S1. It would be for food prep and bushcraft type tasks.
I have never been one on getting more than one knife of a very similar size unless I can rationalize it but thats just me

I finally counted

15 total

10 folders
5 fixed blades

I only bought 7, all others were given to me or won.

Why? The guys in my family are all into knives and my lady friend is very good at getting presents so I have gotten good gifts, I have participated in the pif thread, and I won one gaw. I have bought knives which I thought I would use and like and were reasonable values. I think I could do without a couple, but I don't regret getting them.

I have over 300, as for why I'm not sure, I've been accumulating knives for I've 40 years.

I guess no one has ever told me that I have too many.

I feel pretty good with my setup so far. I've got ~14 total.

Of my 8 Fixed blades, I've only purchased 4, the others have been won/gifted to me. The only "duplicates" that I have are from ones I didn't purchase (for instance, I have a Kabar ZK War Sword, and Becker BK9 both filling the same type of slot in my lineup).

And I'm not really a folder person. I have a few, but only really carry one of 3 (Spyderco Bug, Case Peanut, or Boker Exskelimoor). The others are ones like my great grandfathers knife, or my first boy scout knife.

That said, I am likely going to sell off at least one, but will still likely end up with more as I still have a few use case "holes" in my lineup for now. I guess after that we'll see what happens, but I don't personally see myself ever collecting hundreds of them.

Cheers!

I have somewhere around 60 total......only six are folders, but I have two customs on order. I've cycled through quite a few makers and have now narrowed my list to Pohan Leu, Les George and Andrew Demko....no other folders really interest me any longer! On the fixed side I have a couple of mass-produced knives but the vast majority are customs from the fine makers on this forum......really down to Mason Leeth, Matt Lamey, Charlie Edmondson, OTK knives, Joe Hoover, Lamont Coombs and White Feather Blades. I buy knives to use but I also buy them simply because I like them.....just like guns. I'm happiest when I'm at the range chewing up targets, in the woods chewing up targets/critters and anywhere that I can use a knife.....like at the range and in the woods!! Sharp pointy things and things that go bang just work for me.....simple as that!!

Probably around 60 or 70. I haven't counted them recently.

Why? Because I enjoy the variety of the styles and patterns. Most of mine are traditional slipjoints with a few modern folders.

Aside from kitchen knives (which are fairly numerous, but not too extreme for a one guy; I think 8 of those, not counting silverware), by when I acquired them:
Buck 174 (Picked it up at a surplus store many years ago, but can't recall exactly when. Back then I rode the bus to/from work and school and lost numerous knives (probably to pickpocketing, like my wallets), so I didn't carry anything worth much. Interestingly, this one stayed with me for at least a year before I got a car and therefore I still have it. No clue what kept this one from disappearing like the rest.)
KA-BAR 1213 (Old USMC standard issue style, but in black with synthetic handles and a hard nylon sheath. Bought it from the same surplus store. I use it when camping to make fires, clean fish, etc. Way too big and impractical to carry any other time.)
2 x Kershaw Leek 1660CB (D2 cutting edge combo blade. Was an EDC for almost two years. Second was bought when the first needed sharpening, and in case they quit making them. I bought my dad one of these, too, since I really liked it and he liked it when I showed it to him.)
Kershaw Leek 1660G10 (S30V, rough G10 scales. I have not carried it much since it's like a file and shredded up the pockets on my chinos. It usually stays in my Bag'O'Tricks.)
Handful of Camillus Barlows (3 or 4. Inherited. I suspect they date to the 50s or earlier. Among the toolboxes my grandfather left me.)
Colonial Barlow? (Inherited. Cub Scout marking (grandfather was a scout master for most of his life). Probably also dates to the 50s or 60s.)
Camillus Barlow (Inherited. Odd marking stamped in the side: TL-29. Not sure what the story is on this one.)
Benchmade 890 (My longest-term EDC. Bought it in 2009. I quit buying more at this point because this is a great knife and other hobbies started consuming all my spare money.)
Victorinox Paring Knife (If I recall right, it came as a free gift with the 890... I actually really liked it (shocking) and have kept it in my desk at work. I use it to cut up food that would get in my 890.)
Benchmade 581 (Ordered it before my 890 went out for professional sharpening. Really love the blade material. Sent my dad one of these, too, since he's been taking good care of the 1660CB.)
Benchmade 707 (A knife I feel comfortable handing to someone that is mechanically inept after a recent knife borrowing incident with my 890. The thin handle and smaller size were the big selling points, since I could carry it along with my main knife.)
Benchmade 707-1201 (Had to get one. Love the blue and CF handles, plus the blade is M390 (icing on the cake).)

I think it's 15-16, though I should probably only really count 9-10, since I actually use them. Knives are tools to me, and like any other tool, I won't buy them unless I'm going to use them...
