How Many EDC a Flashlight and a Knife?

With many people on this board carrying at least two knives on a daily basis, I was wondering how many also carried, or felt a need to carry, a flashlight and, if so, what kind of lights do you normally carry? Many people who like knives also like flashlights and I confess I'm one of them.

Because I carry a large Cold Steel Gunsite in a nylon sheath, I've found that, despite its size, that my Fenix L2D AA flashlight fits almost inch for inch in its holster right next to my nylon sheath. I've also found that on the days I forget to carry the light, I usually end up regretting it.

A long flashlight next to a knife the size of the Gunsite also seems to mitigate the Gunsite's size. I would imagine most emergency personnel carry both. Fenix makes an excellent line of lights that are tough and dependable, but there are many good torches available for carry, and LEDs with rechargeable batteries makes for an easily maintained addition.

If anyone has some photos of their knife/light combos, I'd love to see them.

My Gunsite and Fenix L2D. The latter has multiple modes and
great runtimes.

On occasions where size is an issue, I found this little LED gem, which
runs on one rechargeable CR123 and costs under $15. It is surprisingly
bright—bright enough to momentarily stun someone, plus its tough
construction makes it a good reinforcement for the fist/knuckles.

In an emergency situation, the light can be stood on its base
so the light reflects off the ceiling. A friend used both this light
and his knife (to repair a valve) while changing a tire at night.
It has a twist switch and a momentary switch at the base.

I carry a light every day and find I use it every day.

I carry a Nitecore EX10 and absolutely love it.

i'm considering buying the l2d. does it feel bulky in the pocket? i'm thinking of either getting the l2d or the smaller p2d but i like the longer run times of the l2d.

I always have my Fenix Cree Q5 P1D CE (5 Output Levels: 180 lumens (1hrs) 96 lumens (2.8hrs) 16 lumens (21hrs) -Strobe - SOS ) in my pocket at the ready.

Many days I will carry this rig in my back pocket. The days I do not carry it, I will at the very least have the flashlight. It is a PEAK LED Solutions Matterhorn. It is a single AAA flashlight with 3 LED's. The power of this light in such a small package is beyond incredible. It carries in my front pocket when not in a pocket sheath like it is not even there. I use it several times a week.

I use a flashlight almost as often as a knife, so yeah, it's a pretty important part of my EDC. Both are needed, and used every day.

Usually Inova T5, X5, X1 or Surefire Z2, depending on the day's agenda.

What do you guys do that need a flashlight? I guess most of the places I go are well lit.

Surefire E1L , Fenix 1LT or Fenix P1

As to why carry a flashlight. Why not , just like a knife , it is better to have and not need then need and not have.

Because only a reasonable person would install jacks in well-lit, easily accessible areas, instead of wiring closets and underneath desks.

Plus you know, sometimes it's dark at night. :)

photon or inova keychain light, very good for under and behind furniture, under auto hoods, in rooms with burnt lights or if I don't know where the switch is :)

mine are Fenix L1d and Sypderco Endura4

I can't count the # of times I use a flashlight, it's probably the most useful tool next to a knife. Here's just a couple things I run into on a regular basis:

Looking under the car hood at night.
Searching the trunk of my car at night (no lights in trunk)
Doing a pool backwash at 2:30am
Searching for spydi endura lost in couch
Coming out of the bush late at night
Identifying bizare noises coming from yard. (Searching for skunks, raccoons before letting the dog out)
searching for a dropped contact lens (the light creates a shinny glare given the right angle)

+ the Fenix L1d has a strobe on it, not sure if the other fenix have that option too, but its a real + if your lost and trying to signal for help.

I do.

I started carrying seven years ago. On 9/11 I was working on the 41st floor of a downtown office building in Los Angeles. The idea of having to walk down 41 floors of a poorly lit stairwell was not very appealing. I've had a flashlight in my pocket ever since.

You know what's funny? That light looks like it's produced in the same factory, if not on the same machine, as the Fenix flashlights are. Same knurling, same center barrel shape. At under $15.00, with a CREE LED? I'm going to have to pick one up!

I EDC a knife and flashlight daily.

Sometime in the afternoon, my Fenix P3D P. 100 gets transferred from the zip pouches that house my checkbooks, registers, spare batteries, pens and receipts to my belt, and stays there until it reaches my nightstand.

If I forget the P3D, there's always the squeeze light on my keychain.

I started carrying it at work, and it's a habit that's stayed with me ever since. It's just an indispensable item.

I have carried a flashlight daily for about 7 years. They are just too handy not to have. I currently EDC a Surefire Backup model and I love it. I will not carry any flashlight that is not a Surefire. My knife rotates my flashlight does not.

My nonknife edc items are fenix l0d on key chain with leatherman p4 squirt and mini widgey prybar in wallet.

And in my bail out bag a fenix p3d ,with first aid kit, batteries, space blankets,bigger prybar,change baggie,leatherman charge ti,butane torch lighter,tooth brush,bag of change,pepper spray,torx x screwdriver,100 ft black 550 cord,digital camera,sony psp and a few other things.
