How many EDC reasons do you have?

Not asking how many EDC's you have, but how many different type of knives do you EDC? I have 6. For work I carry a Kershaw Camber. I work outside and wanted a knife with an aluminum handle and decent steel. When it comes time to get dressed up I carry a Dragonfly 2 with G10 handles. It's small, and nobody is going to get to excited if I had to pull it out in mixed company to cut something. When I go camping or have a lot of cutting work to do for the day, I carry my Manix 2 LW with an S110V blade. Great blade for the times I really need to heavily use a knife. For the days I'm going to wear shorts and don't have a specific need for a knife I carry my Mini Griptilian. Bit bigger than the Dragonfly but not as cute looking. Normal EDC blade when I'm wearing jeans and just doing normal day to day stuff is a regular Griptilian. Then there are the times when I go out with the guys and want to carry something a bit nicer and for those times it's my ZT 0562CF.

My work Carry these days is an XM-18 3.5 Wharnie in 20CV, with an REK regrind. When I get home from work, I switch over to my SMF in CPM154. If I am heading somewhere that larger knife might be an issue, I will carry my Mini Ritter Grip in M4.

I rotate between 2 knives at the moment:
- Spyderco Southard: what I carry at the office
- Strider SnG: what I carry on the weekends / outdoor trips

I have a Hinderer XM-18 and a CRK Large Starbenza 21 en route. The XM-18 will alternate with the SnG, the CRK with my Southard. All of my knives can do all the work I would ever ask them to do or expose them to, however the Southard and Starbenza's slimmer profiles allow for carry in the office. The XM-18 and SnG are pigs when it comes to pocket space in slacks.

I really have three. Work, which sees my rat or my newly acquired Manix 2. My off work edc and my Sunday/church/dress up nice. Delica or mini grip usually fill the role of the last two. But my collection is small.

I usually carry a recon 1, milli or salt knife at work. 0452 or super roadhouse on off days. Other stuff if I feel like it.

Work: XM-18 3.5, a stout fixed blade between 3.5-4.5" (either my JA Baker S-Tac or my Carothers 3V Field Knife), and a Gerber rescue knife.

Camping, hunting, cottage: same as work.

Days Off: Sebenza (large), JA Baker S-Tac or Carothers 3V Field Knife, SAK Alox Cadet

Shorts - warm weather: Spyderco Stretch and SAK Alox Cadet

Dinner out/family function/etc...: Walter Wells titanium liner lock

I've got about a dozen knives in EDC rotation. The one I carry the most is the Cold Steel Recon 1; it's a no-BS knife that's built to work and doesn't know the meaning of "quit".

Actually, that's the folder I carry the most. Every single day I've got my Super Edge on my keychain. I've put it through a lot of use because it's small and nonthreatening, good for cutting things around sheeple.

I haven't left home without a knife for the last 40 years, and for me, if I have nothing else, I always have a blade of some kind.

But, for the last 10 years, I pocket carry a Ruger LCP .380, so it poses a bit of a problem. My flashlight and lighter are in my left pocket, handkerchief in back left, and wallet in back right. Many times, the lighter gets left behind to allow enough room for the knife and the flashlight.

So, to answer the question, it depends, just as it does for everyone else. It mostly depends on what will stay home to make room for the knife, and that ultimately decides if it's a small pocket carry, small or medium pocket clip carry, or belt carry fixed.

Life happens, differently, very single damned time. So, we adapt our tools, our methods, or our environment in an effort to find our way home.

Office/Church/Formal - Kershaw OD2

Out-n-About - Spyderco Delica ZDP, Native 5 S90V, Caly 3.5, Stretch ZDP

Normal - modern folder in rfp + traditional in lfp. Optional: belt or rear pocket carry of small fixed blade.
Work - traditional in pocket, with modern folder in pack.
Camping/woods - likely to be "Normal", plus a medium-large fixed blade.

I keep about 6-8 knives in heavy rotation.

Around the property, CS Ti-Lite VI or BokerPlus Kalashnikov auto.

Urban everday, right now I favor a 4" CS Ti-Lite. Or my Tekna Ocean Edge fixed.

Urban night, an Emerson karambit or Super CQC-7 spend the most time in my pocket. Or Gryphon M-10 fixed, IWB.

When I think I might need a knife outdoors, a Grayman Dua. Or my 4.5" leuku fixed.

In the car, carried horizontal belt, a BK-11 san mai or Buck CSAR-T Liason.

All as I stumble through life hearing rumors that karambits and tantos aren't practical for EDC.......

Way too many, I have a small collection by most standards of 300+ and I carry on average 4-6 knives a day at the same time for different jobs. I even carry one for eating out. :)

I have very specific carry roles. If I find myself drawn to a knife, I'll buy it. If it doesn't supplant one of my mainstays in any role, I sell it once the warm fuzzy feeling wears off.

Current roles:
Urban/college carry (Dragonfly II)
On the farm/at work (Gayle Bradley)
Working in gloves (Spyderco Swick or Mora)
On the water/acidic environment (Spyderco Saver Salt)
Designated backpack knife (SAK, plus a large Opinel)

I always have two knives on me. Something non-threatening, and something I can depend on if the going gets a little tougher.

My non-threatening carry is almost always ol Soddy (my yeller handled Case sodbuster), or my black alox SAK (thanks again Paul Hilborn!)

My other blade constantly changes, depending on what I'll be doing that day, or what I feel like carrying. Here lately if it's a folder, it's been a Cold Steel Recon 1 or my much cherished Varga Vesper (thanks again Mark!)

If I choose to carry a fixed blade as my second blade, it could be any of about 40 to choose from. They all get carried.

I'm not easy on my knives. I put em all though hell. I have low dollar and high dollar knives and treat pretty much all of them the way most guys on here would treat their "beaters". They all sharpen back up and keep working, and the hard work they do for me, and the scrapes and scars they accumulate in the process bond them stronger to me.

I'm pretty much weekday vs. weekend. For weekend carry I will pick a knife that I feel has tougher steel such as Manix 2 in Cruwear or M4, just so if I have to carve on a piece of PVC pipe or whatever I think the blade will stand up better. For dress occasions sometimes I will pick one specific folder, sometimes it will just be one of my EDC folders.

I almost always carry my alox cadet with a spyderco.

Normal work or casual carry is frequently the PM2 but sometimes the delica 4. (The PM2 is the most fun knife I own but can be a little large to pull out in some circles)

Dressier carry is the Caly 3.5 because of the deep carry wire clip. This one can also be used for work or casual carry.

Beach or fishing carry is the Salt 1 due to the low maintenance. I clip it in the waistband of my board shorts and wear it in the ocean or in gym shorts for a jog.

Some times it seems like I have none, I will go days sometimes weeks without a reason to use my EDC, not because I don't need a knife but because I have a dedicated tool on hand for what ever I would use the knife for. Opening a letter? there is a letter opener on my desk. Cutting cardboard boxes up? There is a Stanley in all three of my tool boxes. I EDC because I might need it, not because I have an immediate everyday use for it.

My typical "leave the farm" EDC package consists of 5 knives::
- a pair of Buck 484 folders, LFP/RFP
- a BK11, LRP
- a pair of fixed blades @ 4 and 8, from the following pairs::
******* a pair of Kabar 125X "3/4 Kabars"
or
******* a pair of Kabar 1232s
or
******* a BK15/BK16/B17 with either a 1232 or a 125X

My "around the farm" EDC package is essentially the same as above, except that the paired fixed blade options vary based on what I am doing that day.

One or more of the FBs can be replaced by a BK9, BK7, BK4, Kabar 1217, Western L46-5/6/8, or some generic machete. As soon as it arrives, the new BK21 (the new version of the RBK) will be taking it's turn in the rotation.
