How many have fixed the sticky lock on the PM2?

Just curious as to how many people have fixed this issue. What method did you use to fix it, lots of use (doesnt seem to be working for me), rotating the stop pin or other???

Get a pencil and color the lockbar contact area with the graphite. Problem solved. You can do this for any liner or framelock too. You'd have to take the knife apart though to do this on a compression lock of course.

Yea I guess if there is no easy non warranty voiding fix then ill send it in. still haven't tried the stop pin trick, wanted to get some feedback first.

Mine was never sticky to begin with but after taking it apart and lightly sanding all of the machined edges just for good measure and thoroughly cleaning everything mine can now be tightened all the way down (including the pivot) and still literally falls closed when I actuate the lock and had absolutely zero blade play in any direction. My assumption is that by cleaning up all of the edges I improved the tolerances significantly enough to allow the bushing system to work as designed. Before doing this my para2 had a slight amount of side to side play with the blade loose enough to fall closed and could be tightened to the point of binding. Basically what I'm saying is that many small fit and finish issues such as blade play and a sticky lock can be fixed with relative ease provided you know what you're doing. You are essentially just doing the final fit and finish yourself. Keep in mind doing any of this voids your warranty so proceed with caution.

The one I have that was so sticky it was basically unusable finally worked its self out after a few months of constantly opening/closing while watching TV @ night. It still is a tiny bit sticky but i'm finally able to carry and enjoy the knife.

I have been trying that but man my fingers a sore. It feels like I am being tortured just typing this. lol

This is the first I have heard of some Para Military 2's being a little sticky (none of mine are), but I bet that if you just use the sucker and move on, it will un-sticky itself in due course. Sorta like breaking in a pair of shoes.

My s90v para 2 was pretty sticky. I tried all sorts of things, some made it worse, some made it better before it came right back. I took it apart, and used a sharpmaker stone to kind of smooth the edges and such. I'm not sure if that did the trick, I didn't remove much at all, if anything I probably de-burred the edges of the lock bar. I remember it still sticking a bit, but I just opened and closed it until my index finger developed a callus, and it hasn't stuck since.

I did notice when it was sticky, that it would release easier or harder depending on where and how you pressed the lockbar.

None of my pm2's are sticky either, no blade play at all. Wish i could say the same about some of the other brands of knives i have.

I just tried rotating the stop pin. Nothing. I did however notice that when the stop pin screws are loose the lock doesn't stick. Not sure what this means but I can't just leave them loose. Any suggestions before I send it in under warranty?

I got 2 blue m390 pm2's and one was super sticky with loud clicks and the other was super smooth no click and easily swings open and closed. Been looking to see if there was some sort of remedy that I could use without voiding the warranty.. However, nothing really seemed to work (opening and closing constantly, lube with mineral oil, and stop pins) so I decided to email spyderco warranty and they said they couldn't give me a DIY solution and said that they have to take a look at it and possibly replace the lock.. So, I decided to send it in.. Arrives tomorrow in Golden. With a 3 week turn around time =(

It voids the warranty, but the PM2 is very easy to take apart. Everything can be oiled and the pivot washers can be polished. Taking apart the stop pin and cleaning and reassembling everything and polishing sure makes it perfect. Just remember how everything goes together and you should be fine.

Your other option is to send it in, but they may say it is within speck unless it is super sticky.
