How many have fixed the sticky lock on the PM2?

My DLC coated black PM2 is a bit stickier than my uncoated PM2, but it's never been hard to unlock. I mean, it's no different than the stickiness one feels with titanium lock bars. etc.. I'm not sure why this is such an issue with some people, but as long as it doesn't interfere with unlocking and closing the blade it doesn't bother me.

Probably because you have never experienced a really sticky lock. Im not talking about a stiff lock, Im talking about a lock that sticks so bad the steel bends before it clicks closed. Thats a huge inconvenience IMO and is something that should be taken care of before it leaves the factory.

I think "sticky" can be too vague a term. My PM2 was just a little "sticky" if you mean a bit of effort was required to unlock it, but it smoothed out with use. If you mean "sticky" to the point where the knife lock jams itself when opened, so it really requires force to unlock with the possibility of damaging the contact faces of the lock, then no it wasn't. Truthfully, I've come across sticky locks of this sort across all price points and all brands at one point or another. Not frequently, but enough that I'll say no brand is immune short of perhaps buying a full on custom. I suspect it's just a result of how fine the manufacturing tolerances have become with modern folding knives. That and if you buy enough knives for long enough, you're guaranteed to get a lemon or few eventually. What I've found works the best is applying a sharpie marker to the contacting surfaces. That is usually enough to keep the lock from binding, and I'll just use the knife and reapply until the mating lock surfaces wear and the problem goes away. For some locks that are hard to get into such as the compression lock, or for knives where I don't want to take it apart, I've actually cracked open markers to make it easier to slide them inside. I used to sometimes send knives back under warranty for this problem until I learned this trick. It has since worked on many folders where I would have taken a pair of pliers to them before.

My M390 was a little bit sticky, but tossing some graphite on it where the blade and the lock connect helped sort it out. My understanding is that you have to semi-regularly recoat it, but that after a couple of times the stickiness will work itself out.

My 20CP started to get really sticky.

I loosened the pivot and stop pin and rotated the stop pin. After I tightened everything down again, no more sticky lock. I could see some wear-marks on the stop pin, so Im suspecting that.

My Camo PM2 was perfect, but the Yojimbo2 was sticky at first... I've probably opened/closed it 30-40 times since I've had it and it is getting a lot better. The lock is a lot harder to push though than my PM2

Mine stuck when I received it, but I just opened and closed it over and over for about a week or two and it worked itself out. Now it is as smooth as ever and very easy to disengage.

I just tried rotating the stop pin. Nothing. I did however notice that when the stop pin screws are loose the lock doesn't stick. Not sure what this means but I can't just leave them loose. Any suggestions before I send it in under warranty?

Loosen the stop pin screws, flick the blade open with force, tighten down the screws. Problem solved on most Para 2s.

I've owned 15+ Para 2s. I'm somewhat of a "para 2 whisperer." Never met one that I couldn't get the blade play out of, and same with the sticky lock. :)

In theory, will this work on the Yojimbo 2?

Damn, John, I wish I could say the same. My XHP Para 2 has blade play that I can't seem to dial out completely and still have a smooth action and my S30V one has a sticky lock. I need to spend more time with them I guess.

It's all about the PERFECT tension on all 4 screws near the pivot area. There is a sweet spot in the tightness of those 4 screws that will take all play out, while still being able to swing the blade freely. It has taken me literally 2 hours one time to dial in an S30V Para 2 I had. After that it's been rock solid.

I did come across one Para 2 that I couldn't get the play out of. A customer sent it to me for sharpening. He said he had messed with it before, so whether or not that kept me from dialing it in or not, I dunno. Keep tinkering with it, and make SUPER slight adjustments, then check again. I've found that a lot of people just turn the screws too much one way or the other when trying to dial them in. Sometimes it comes down to literally like 1/64 of a turn. Just a slight nudge can make the difference on some knives.

Looks like it's time to break out the torx bits and Loc Tite. Thanks John.

From my experiences sticky lock PM2 always come with lesser blade play compare to the smoother one.
