How many have fixed the sticky lock on the PM2?

What do you guys mean by sticky lock? I have to apply pressure, then there is small click, and then it unlocks; is that what you mean by sticky lock? Somewhat surprised by all the hub-bub if that is what it is(guess I shouldn't be by now). Or is it like a sticky frame lock/liner lock where it takes significant pressure and is a beast to unlock?

It takes a considerable amount of pressure to release it sometimes. Enough to where the steel bends before it clicks open.
 
My s90v P2 has a sticky lock and a strong detent, but I like it that way. Was a bit of a pain at first but then my thumb got tougher in the right places. ;)
 
My yojimbo 2 had a VERY sticky lock. I used it and it smoothed out nicely after a week or two. Just have to break them in.
 
Mine had a very sticky lock, but my experience with framelocks and liner locks told me to just keep using it and I did. Took more then 2 weeks but she is now smoother then a baby's fresh powdered bottom.

It is part of the break in period IMO like a Strider.
 
About half of my PM2s are sticky. One has a LOT of cycles on it and it's still sticky, so use and "break-in" doesn't seem to change that. But, as OB says, it's not a big problem.

Some may think a "sticky lock" as defined here to be a desirable thing. As long as you can unlock it one-handed, if it is "sticky" you know it won't come unlocked when you are doing something unusual with the knife.
 
None of my Para2s have been sticky. I have noticed that the newer generations/runs of the knives have gotten progressively smoother over time. My original stock P2 is a great knife, but each release seems to have tighter tolerances and smoother action. The latest M390 Blue unit is the best of the bunch - although I really like the 20CP steel in the Gray...

Chalk it up to Sal's CQI program - Spyderco is on a roll in Golden.

Mine had a sticky lock, but it was more an annoyance than a true hindrance. Had to use two hands to unlock it, (one to hold it, one to unlock it), but it didn't take a ton of force. Got a little better with time, but I traded it before it could get too much better.
 
I really think this is a problem that needs to be addressed by Spyderco. My M390 was slick as butter so I thought the issue was solved but in post #18 above jkh said one of his was bad. I have a bunch of PM2's and some stick, others don't. We need a consistent product at this level, just saying.... :cool:

I agree! This was my first PM2 and with all the hype about it I was quite ecstatic about receiving it. Needless to say it was a pretty big let down when I started having the lock issue out of the box.
 
I'm not endorsing taking your knife apart, so this is just a question for my own knowledge; is there any way they can actually tell that you've had your knife apart? (assuming that everything is put back together correctly)

Thy can tell by the looks of the thread lock. I polished my pivot washers so that would be a dead giveaway as well lol.
 
Update:

I tried rotating the stop pin again, I barely tightened it back up, just enough for the screws to stay in. Stickiness is gone! Im not sure why, I cant tell what difference rotating the stop pin would make since it is cylindrical but ill take it.

i used a toothpick to grease the pin and it been about a month now, very very slight stick when disengaging. best part is that i didnt have to take the knife apart
 
Mine was perfect out of the box. I'm pretty sure it's the best knife ever made as of right now. It's pretty beat up looking now but still performs as good as new.
 
My S90V was very sticky even after a break in period. Sent it in to Spyderco, 3wks later it came back smooth as butter.q

My DLC coated black PM2 is a bit stickier than my uncoated PM2, but it's never been hard to unlock. I mean, it's no different than the stickiness one feels with titanium lock bars. etc.. I'm not sure why this is such an issue with some people, but as long as it doesn't interfere with unlocking and closing the blade it doesn't bother me.
