How many knife nuts do you know?

It would be fun to see how popular we knife nuts are.

By knife nut, I mean someone who EDC a knife whenever he/she can and has basic knife knowledge (knows the difference between an Axis lock and a frame lock). Please exclude knife shop owners and knife makers.

By know, I mean you meet the person face to face many times during the year. A distant relative who visits once a year counts, but some knife nut you met randomly and never seen again does not count. Your internet knife nut friends do not count either.

Please state your location and if you know a knife nut, state if he/she goes on bladeforums.

For me

location: Albany, CA
knife nuts that I know of: 0 :(

Location: Austin, Texas
Knife nuts I know: 0

Like I posted in the balisong section a while ago, all of my friends are afraid of knives. Either that or they just think that knives are a waste of money.

I know 1 person who EDCs a knife, but doesn't know the difference between cheap and quality knives. However, he's been very interested in quality knives since I started talking to him about it. I'm going to be picking his 1st REAL EDC for him. He's looking to spend around $100. Right now he carries a $5 knife.

Much like ignoramus, I know people that EDC knives, but don't know much about them, and their real concern is if they can get one for $10 or less.

Well...

My father EDC's a SAK classic, my sister carries a spyderco native (gift from me), friend EDC's a S&W SWAT knockoff (need to give him a good knife), and other friend EDC's a chive that I gave him.

They don't know what the parts of the knife are, or how they are built, I just showed them my collection and said "choose" and then they chose the one that they liked best.

So that would be 4.

I work with 3 knife nuts. 2 EDC knives, but know very little about knives in general. 1 knows tons about knives, even makes them from time to time, but does not EDC. I am currently convincing a friend to become a nut, and he has started EDCing a spyderco.

So i know 3.5 nuts.

What can you say. With modern times we live in a pre-cut world and most people rarely set foot outside of an industrialized city where most the cutting is done for them. Pre-sliced meats, preforrated boxes and mail packages, self-ripping tape....it's really no wonder so few people EDC a knife.

Philadelphia, PA.

Sometimes you can't tell who is and who isn't. I know 1 girl who EDCs a SAK but knows nothing about knives; 1 girl who basically taught me everything I needed to know to get started with (good) knives, has a decent collection and introduced me to BF, but doesn't EDC; 1 guy who has a knife collection but I have no idea whether he EDCs and whether those knives are quality production or CCC; 1 pseudo ex-knife knut who sold off most of his CCC collection. :foot:

So .... that makes it what? 1.5, counting the girl and the guy with the mystery collection?

Knife Knuts: 0

I'm the only person I know who carries a quality knife daily. I have coworkers who carry cheap knives, but they do know the difference between a lockback and a liner lock, nor do they even know how to unlock an Axis or BB lock, so I wouldn't consider them knife knuts.

There was one instance where I was picking up chinese food, and a pair of gentlemen also picking up food noticed the clip on my pocket, and asked if it was a waved model(which it was). We got to talking about knives for a couple minutes.

They were likely knife knuts passing through, haven't seen them again, despite my fondness for that chinese restaurant(at least 3 times a week)

Abbotsford, BC, Canada.

I know of one from my home town. He EDC's and used to make knives.

I know one from my job. He EDC's and knows a fair amount about steel, although he hasn't kept track lately... He gave up at around the time ATS 34 came out.

I just met another guy the other day. If you're in Abbotsford, go down South Fraser Way just east of Ware... Canadian Collector's Club sells William Henry knives and had some by Peter Marzitelli as well... I nearly crapped myself when I saw what this place had to offer. This guy stayed an hour after closing and kept on bringing knives out that he thought were fun...

So, I know of three definitely. This guy at Canadian Collector's Club knows of more guys in Canada that have >$10,000 collections... I'm amazed, to be honest.

One other guy I met at a knife show--we have since become friends.

We are rare.
I also enjoy lots of other "personal artifacts" and have almost enough flashlights, watches, lighters, and knives.

location round rock tx,. known knife nutz maybe 1/2 lol, a bud KINDA gets into them but he really more just admires nice stuff (ie guns, cars, knives, etc) and isnt that knowledgeable about them at all,

North County San Diego.

I know 2. I met them both online, but see them face to face consistantly.

One is Mastersmith Dave Ellis. He is teaching me how to make knives.

The other is collector Don Adolfson. He lives a block from my work and we like to talk knives, and trade.

I don't know of any knife knuts. My Uncle has an interest in knives, but he couldn't tell the difference between an Axis lock and a framelock. He is getting a D'Allara DP & ParaMillie for his B-day from me. He lives in PA. and is on his way wife my Aunt and their dog for a visit.
