How many knife nuts do you know?

Columbus, OH

Although I know several folks who use knives on a daily basis in their work and/or carry daily, I have known only one kk, now deceased, plus another who used to live in an Ohio River community. He was a collector, but not so much from any real interest than to be sociable. It was sort of tradition among his fellow river boatmen to gather for a Saturday morning whiskey and eggs breakfast and then show and swap knives and lies. That's the way he tells it, I wasn't there.

Of course, for the first half of my life I wasn't interested in knives as a topic, so I might have met some without the subject ever coming up.

Here in my rural corner of SE Minnesota I know almost everyone who lives on a farm carries a pocketknife of some kind, but most coulden't tell the difference between a chinese Wall-Fart liner-lock and a Sebenza.

I have several friends who EDC folders but a couple of them bought based on my recommendation:) As far as knowledge of brands, steels, etc - 0

Yeah, I only know one knife nut, and thats cus I turned him into one:D . And now hes even a member here:thumbup: !

well in WV locally...
there is.... me.....well pretty much just me that I know.

My friends brother thinks he is a knife nut, he has a S&W folder, he has never heard of Strider, Busse or Chris Reeve. lol
My best friend thinks he has a pocket knife somewhere, probably in a drawer at his house (I asked him today for this)

my friends dont get it for the most part. they rely on me to have a multitool/knife when they need it.

I am the only knife nut I know. I do know a people who cary clip knives or pocket knives, but thats the extent of it.

I'd guess that all or nearly all of the men around here carry a pocket knife, and I occationally see some sheathed folders and small fixed-blades. All of my co-workers carry pocket knives, but most are el-cheapo Chinese junk. I'd have to say that I know 0 other people who are on the same level of knife-nuttiness that I am.

Just about all the guys I work with carry some form of knife, but I'm the only (out of 22) I would consider a knife nut. Most currently carry a Leatherman Wave (company gift for all last year), and/ a few carry a folding knife too. When we started up the power plant six years ago the construction Project Manager bought us each a Buck 110 as safety gift for 1 million man-hours without an injury. A few guys still carry those too.

When I get a new guy on my shift permanently, I get him a new Spyderco. Usually an Endura, but I've also given a Massad Ayoob SE and a Harpy once on a special request. They were knives I was carrying at the time that the guys took a liking too.

I've hoped that the seed would take hold, but nobody else has really gotten the fever. I'm surprised actually.

Final score: EDC a knife- probably around 25 total
True knife nuts: 3, myself and two guys I know that work in a knife store!

I have one friend who I would consider a knife nut. A couple of others who EDC knives, but know zilch about them and usually have cheapos, aside from knives I have given them as gifts, or talked them into buying.

I'm working on them though. ;)

Knife nuts on b/f: 5+
either not sure of b/f status or for sure not: 15+

I recently went to a party where a bunch of knife nuts meet here in MD. Most of them were from the Usual Suspects forum but some also frequented b/f as well. I know many family members and my g/f for one who are knife nuts. A couple of buddies of mine are mediocre knife nuts or are on the line and I am trying to convert.

This low number of knife nuts is not good news against the recent anti-knife attacks. Convert convert convert!!!!!!

If a special girl says "yes" to me today, I will get her a a Spyderco Cricket instead of a diamond ring :D

Oh yea, I'm only 18. :p

In the rural areas we have lots of knife knuts, but I find there are two categories. There are the fixed blade knife knuts who are the serious ones, and carry fixed blades as their everyday carry. Then there is the other 'club' who carry folders, but feel that a fixed blade is more than they want on their belts.

Up until a few weeks ago, I only knew a handful personally. Met some makers and collectors that are members on here and Jerzee Devil. Mainly those in MD and PA.

I'm in Whitehall MD.

Got my buddy Eric to start carrying a pocketknife, and now he's getting into it, learning about steel types, lock types, etc.
Couple other folks I know carry a knife daily and are enthusiastic about checking out the new ones I pick up, etc., but they're not very well-versed in the subject. They're more concerned with using the knife they've got, than with the industry, the artistic aspect of knifemaking, or the new technology that's coming out.

When I lived in New York, I knew a few people who carried good folders. Especially in the Post Office, where we used them on the job.

Here in New Jersey, we have a different situation. There are a few of us in this area who met through the forums and get together regularly, and that was part of the impetus for the NJ Knife Collectors Association, which meets for show & tell every month.

Recently, we had 3 new guys come to a meeting, and yesterday we had 2 more.

Until you learn who's out there, it looks like zero, but if you set up a meeting or ask who wants to get together, you might be surprised.

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I know three people that carry a knife on a daily basis and have basic knife knowledge (actually a lot more than basic). My brother, my father and a friend who lives 500km away (he's on another forum, not BF).

knife knuts: 0

My girlfriend and my brother frequently carry and use knives I gave them (blue mini-Grip and Bladetech Pro-Hunter lite) but don't really fit the knut catergory (yet?). While they both recognize and appreciate the quality of their knives, they don't see a need to own more than 1 or 2 or keep up with the latest industry news/trends.
