  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

How many knives are in your collection?

At last count, it was 152. Probably a few more than that now. I have had a month to buy more.

Just wait until some of the four-digit folks chime in.

So where are they?
Hiding in shame, or discretion?

I think numbers don't matter. I have a few dozen, but a third of them belong to the kitchen (still some of the most expensive knives I have), so that's not a collection (though yanagiba/usuba/deba is a sort of trinity :) )
another third is just a haphazard agglomeration of whatever caught my fancy and was availably at a good price...
only the final third, a dozen or two, is what I'd call a collection in the strict sense: a consciously assembled 'string' of knives 'held together' by, i.e. representative of a common principle or maker or type or sth like that...
in my case: Ken Onions, CRKs, and military classics.

I believe last count was 500, but that was a few years ago. I made a chest of drawers out of pine and poplar, it's about half full, but never got around to making a lock system for it, doesn't matter because my wife has a ton of crap in front of it, so it's safe. I also have an oak machinists chest on my dresser with my favorites in it, and I just made a 3 drawer bottom for it for my big carbon steel fixed blades.

After doing a tally the other night I have 371 knives, I think 5 are straight-edge razors & 4 are scissors in a set. My dad actually built up the collection & gave them to me once I moved into my 1st house.

My obsession started in last November, after I bought Leatherman; since then I purchased:
Emerson Travel
Spyderco Native
BM 551
Spyderco Kopa Cocobolo
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Kopa Micarta
BM 730BT Ares
Spyderco Kopa Apple Coral
Spyderco Kopa Tiger Coral,
Before that I had only 2 SAKs: Traveler and Handyman, still love them

I have about 94. But the problem is that since I started reading (and registering) on this site I have bought 28 more (since Jan. 1, 2006). Mostly due to listening to the threads. Now what am I supposed to due with 16 new 4" drop point fixed hunter types? I just had to have one of every type of steel. Still missing VG-10. Is it realy possible for a normal person to buy a Busse?
