How many knives do you carry?

One, usually a Spyderco Endela K390 or sometimes a Military. I once went 18 years with just an Old Timer stockman for work and daily carry. With the old stockman, I had 3 blades to dull before I had to sharpen them. Once in blue moon I may have two with me.

My question for those who take 3 or more, what do you actually use them for during the day?

Now when hunting, I had three, a Wyoming knife, an older Gerber Gator and a large knife, a Cold Steel Recon for brush, limbs and a more secure feeling when bowhunting. Many say a 4" is all that is needed and I understand that. But after carrying a machete in VN during TET when we thought we might be overrun one night, I've never shook the comfort of a big knife.

I always carry an auto on my right pocket (strong hand), a para2 or para3 (weak hand) and occasionally a GiantMouse on my right hip in case the fit hits the shan.

This was in answer to Grizzly3 above.

First thing in the morning, I grab my phone off the charger and a pocket knife. As I move around the house during the day (WFH) I will have 2-3 knives on me depending on my mood. My monitor stand has a drawer that fits about 20 knives for quick access. If I jump in my truck to go somewhere, I have 2 or 3 still on me, plus another 5-6 within reach in the truck on in my coat/ECD pouch. If I travel, I pack 5 or 6 that wouldn't make me cry if lost or damaged, but something that gives me joy and variety. Air travel means I need to check baggage and auto travel is not an issue. In 40 years, I've only lost one to TSA and that was before 9/11. Apparently double edge was a no no even then....oops. Some places say "no weapons allowed". I snuck a Cobratech into a band concert last year and had to stuff it down my pants and go thru the metal detector twice while trying get lost in the crowd. That was dumb, but I liked that knife and the detector surprised me for that venue. Church or a wedding, I'll pick one and travel light like a gentleman. I am not a minimalist to say the least.
EDC is three:
Benchmade Contego
Becker Necker BK-11
Victorinox Rangergrip 78

Keyring has a Vic Alox Cadet if I leave home.

If Im going outdoors camping, hunting, etc, a fixed blade like a Becker BK-16 gors on the belt. The pack, shoulder bag, bottle bag, etc all have knives attached or in them as well. Ill grab other larger blades for bigger chores.

Needless to say, depending upon what Im doing, three is the minimum.

Neck knife for times without a jacket when I have a small cutting job I want to do quickly. Also for all Kydex, Boltaron, and Holstex scoring, as well as trimming excess painters tape off the blades before molding, trimming cardboard to make shipping boxes, and cutting tape.

Folder in back right pocket for opening packages, and larger cutting jobs that call for a 4”+ blade. Serrated, because when serrations are done right they do all the jobs of a plainedge and more plus they are laughably easy to sharpen.

Folder in left cargo pocket to sit next to my phone to keep it from rotating in the pocket. My my phone is vertically oriented I have good range of motion but when the phone goes horizontal I can’t lift my left leg as high as I’d like. So the official job of that folder is literally to hold my phone in place. It’s also a super thinly reground and reprofiled S35VN Resilience and I almost never use it so it is guaranteed to be extremely sharp for times I need to make a high precision cut or demonstrate my ability to make a knife into a cutting monster.

4” fixed blade on my hip that admittedly gets used less than my back pocket folder, and always one of my making. But it changes so frequently that it’s main purpose seems to be marketing more than actual use, even though it often ends up being a 4” Prevail, which is a model that I love using. It was a 7” Tanto for a couple months “in case of coyotes”, you know, because of the several thousand of the mongrels I’ve had to fend off to save my life so far. Actually I carried it because I think it’s really cool. And someone else did too, so now he has it.🤣😭🫶

Multi tool in front right knife pocket next to my pen and sharpie. Has a couple blades on it. Do you think I ever use them? It’s only there for the saw, drivers and mostly the pliers.

That’s currently. There’s nothing to say I won’t take away from (or add to) this number as my needs and whims morph. Not for now two folders, two fixed, and a multitool. And the fixed blade on my hip and neck knife, always of my design and making, and ever changing over time depending on what I’ve made recently that I can bring myself to let go. Which would be just about everything if my cat didn’t have to eat. 🤣

My backpack (I’m a cycling commuter and it goes everywhere with me) has a bunch of production fixed blades in it. A SOG given to my by Fixall which I reground and made a sheath for. And a Mora which I changed nothing on. Pair of Klein electrician scissors, too, which I also made a sheath for. Can’t say I use the fixed blades but the scissors get used from time to time.

Emerson CQC-7B, which I carry in case I need it for scraping barnacles off the submerged leg of an enemy oil rig in order to attach a mine, or for opening blister packs, whichever comes first.

Just 2 but I rarely use the Cold Steel Micro Recon on my keychain. In fact, I almost said 1 because I keep forgetting it’s there.
