How many knives do you EDC?

Sometimes when I carry two knives "EDC" style it's because one is a multi tool and the other is a dedicated one-hand opener.

Most of the time it's because I really like knives and can't make a decision in the morning :)

I love having my sebenza or umnumzaan for most tasks and a slipjoint for fondling and food prep.

If you consider "EDC" to mean an average weekday situation rather than outdoorsy type activities then I doubt there are many people here who carry multiple knives because they honestly believe they will need more than one.

I think a lot of us carry a multi-tool for the functionality and another, "nicer" knife to satisfy our knifenuttiness.

Usually just one, but when i'm carrying a nice gentleman's knife, chances are i'll have something cheaper as well for harder use that I wouldn't subject the nicer knife to. (For example, carrying a Caly 3 CF and a Sodbuster)

Usually two: a slipjoint like a stockman or swayback jack, and a primary folder. The slipjoint goes in my right front pocket and the folder goes in my right back pocket.

I carried 18 once, then proceeded to carve pumpkins with some friends that don't carry and needed some. On a normal day I only carry 2-3, one is usually a multitool. If I have a third it is usually just because I like to carry it, or I want an option that doesn't draw attention like the crack of a switchblade opening.

Oh and the reason: some tasks call for a bigger knife. As an example, I am at a hospital with family today. In the cafeteria my wife needed to cut some chicken for her salad. I thought it would be better to use a small slipjoint than to open a larger folder in that crowded area. Especially since we are at a shared table with strangers I thought it would be best to err on the side of caution. I'm glad I had two in that instance.

I almost always have 2 on me. Some sort of folder (lately my 0550BLK but occasionally a manix2 or Rake) and my ESEE Candiru IWB on my left hip. The candiru gets used when I need to be discrete or there's someone around I feel would judge me for the size of my folder. I also use it exclusively for my food as it's much easier to clean up and there's no pivot oil to get into my food.

The folder is just a tad quicker to get to so I use it for the majority of my cutting tasks day to day. Also has quite a bit more blade real estate which is nice depending on what I do.

Overall, I've found it to be a good combo. I forget the candiru is there until I need it.

Max 3, minimum 1. When it's three, I have a traditional in my watch pocket, something clipped to my back pocket, usually a spyderco or all stainless kershaw, and a main knife in the front right. :)

I always have a nice locking folder in my RFP, but I keep a SAK (Executive, Classic or soon-to-be Rambler) on the keychain in case a need for scissors, or a loaner blade, comes up.
I also have another OHO folder in my jacket pocket, but I don't always wear my jacket.
2 is one and 1 is none...

3-5 Depending on what pants I am wearing.

I will carry a variety of traditional folders, including Gec, Queen, and Opinel, and often a custom folder by J. Oeser, and often a modern folder as well.

When at work I EDC six knives. When I'm off work I EDC three knives. And each and every one of them has a different intended purpose.

2 everyday at work. A stout folder for heavier work, and a smaller one with a very acute tip for small stuff. I wear cargo type pants, so carrying stuff isn't a problem. I have one of those jobs where you have to have everything you might possibly need, immediately.

Traditional small slip joint and a sebenza. Lot people freak out when you pull out a larger knife, that's when I use the slippie.

Usually 2. Daily EDC clipped to right front pocket, and Spyderco Manbug on keychain. Sometimes a 3rd on the weekend if my holstered Strider is on my belt.

Usually four blades. The one I use most often is a Jeff Chafee Liner Lock. I have an A.G Russell Funny Folder in my wallet, an Al Mar S.L.B as a cash clip and a small blade on my SOG Cross Cut mini multi-tool on my key chain.

I always carry something with a disposable blade along with another fixed or folder.

A primary but also a small sak on the keyring. Seldom use the blade of the sak but use everything else.
