how many knives do you need

I just bought a Tenacious, and could lose my job inside of 90 days. Hmm, makes me want a Mini-Griptillian and a Caly 3.

What I like about knives, though, is that it's a nice, safe hobby. No hangovers, no regrets, and I can stay sitting on the couch.

I asked my wife several years ago which of my knives she liked the best, and could use safely, if needed. We decided on the Buck 110, or clones thereof, and I now have 9 knives of that type. One each for carry, car tool box, garage tool box, shooting tool box, camping equipment box, drawer by the bed, family bug-out pack, and two spares, one of which is hidden somewhere in the house that only I know about. My other working "edged things" are a Tromantina machete for yard work, a Becker BK7, and various axes/hatchets.

Those 110-types are simple to operate, and each family member knows how to use them safely. The two for the camping equipment and bug-out pack have carbon steel blades, to use with fire starters.

I have about 60-70 other knives of various types, all of which I could do without if I had to.

I'm with Taurn on this one, I keep telling myself "now this is it"-it never works.

That is what I said 40 odd years ago.

Its like sex. You have sex and then you think you are totally famished. That was Great, I AM really satisfied.

You buy a new knife and its like - YEAH - I really like this one - this is IT!!!!!!

Then after a little while you get a little randy again........

There's enough space for atleast 10 more.......slacker!! :p
;)
That picture is about a year old and about 75 knives shy of what I have. A friend of mine just sent me a box of NIB boxes small Texas Toothpicks, about 15 more. It was a result of a trade for one of my customs. I try hard not to be called a slacker. Someone has to do it.:p

Wow, that's a collection, James Todd! I only see a few fixed blades. You don't like fixed blades, or are they in a different case?

I have just a few fixed blades, never bought a lot of them, Have two that were made by fellow forum members, Robert Dark a neighbor, and Matt Bailey that makes Halibuts out of the G-10 I am giving away to knife makers.
The rest of my fixed blades shown on the wall photo were inherited from my wifes uncle. The dagger in the dead center with Horn handle was made in the year 1898 when he went to work at Bethelem Steel at the age of eight.

He gave me all of them before he died.

So, I really have a few, but it is not something I hunt for.

Just one more and thats it! Yea right i dont have a problem. I only carry two knives in my pocket, two in my Back Pack with laptop, a mini prybar, leatherman squirt, Sog Multitool, DMT Shaprener. You see guys I have it under control. I am a casual knife buyer.
I think we need to set up knife-aholic chapters across the world.

I think we need to set up knife-aholic chapters across the world.

We have those. It's called bladeforums.com. From what I can tell, some member here have been in "recovery" since 1998. Looks to me that this here "support" group hasn't cured a single one of us.

Which is why I hang around...:p

The more I think about it I cannot deny that despite my best efforts, my will and self control are very much skewed by the possibility of possessing more blades. In a nutshell, knives can be really freaking addictive.
