how many knives do you need

I would say you NEED to have 2 knives. Always have one on you and one as a backup in case you lose or break the main one.
 
need? In all actuality, two. One for discreet, light, small, "disappears in the pocket" everyday carry. That would be my Kershaw Leek. One for heavy duty real work. Which is my Kershaw JYDII.

Want? Oh, that's a barrell of worms. I bought two last week, and I'm ordering another two this week (a Byrd Cara Cara PE G10 handle, and a CS Ti-Lite Zytel 4") None of these are needs.

But i consider knife collecting to be a hobby with the positive benefit of being useful. Or as I just tell a lot of people when they ask how many knives I'm going to buy, "Well, until I find the right one." Which means, I don't care! I like collecting them.

Need? I needed one to replace one, that was over 100 knives ago. Now I need one so I can say I have one. Later, Bob
 
I dont collect, have 4 or five dozen. they are all All workers, all rotate usage, some more than others. Do we we all have a problem? I guess, dont really care. It is fun.
How many do you need?, How many do you like?
