How many knives do you own? Are you a collector or just addicted to buying knives?

Yep a man needs a hobby, one of mine is knives, I simply like knives... somewhere north of 130 at the moment, mostly Busse or one of their two associated brands.

I'm somewhere around 350. I collect locking blades, 70's & 80's, and there's an awful lot of them out there although I did just finish up my want list with the purchase of a Camillus 886. Think I'll be taking a break from any more buying and just enjoy going through what I have.

I own 13 knives at the moment. I would have more if I could afford it but not 100's more. I'm happy with what I have but yes, I'm addicted to buying knives and I'm always on the hunt!

I'm neither.

At the moment I have 2 fixed, 4 folders.

Now, my son , well he has a knife problem. He is an addict at 17. His collection is at about 150 knives. From Buck to Zero Tolerance and almost every letter inbetween He just can't say no to giving the knives I get bored with a good home. [emoji6]

I'm both a collecting accumulator and an accumulating collector, depending on WHICH area of my acquisitions you are considering at the time.

From the "collector" aspect, I collect US bayonets, Western and Kabar knives, with the long term goal of acquiring at least 1 of each model and variation.

From the "Accumulator" aspect, I accumulate Sharp and Pointy Objects (S&POs) that fall into 1 of 2 categories - either I just like them or they relate to the collector areas. Swords, Boy and Girl Scout knives, military bolos, machetes, shovels, axes, and hatchets fall into the first category. Non-US bayonets, non-Western or non-Kabar Bowie knives fall into the second category.

Then you have to consider my "pack rat gene". If I like or want a particular knife in a lot on eprey, I have been known to bid on the lot to get 1 or 2 particular knives out of it and the rest go into the "to be sold" tub aka TBS tub.

I recently bought a grouping of 5 knives to specifically get the ONE Western that I have never seen before, in person, for sale or even listed in any Western literature I have. The other 4 will either become users or will go into the TBS tub. I also bought a box of 60 knives for $60 to get a specific knife I saw in the pictures. Turns out there were a couple of semi-rare straight razors (which I don't collect at all). Those brought me over $60 each. I had the knife I wanted, my $60 bucks back, about $80 to go towards more knives, and 57 more knives to peddle for more knife bucks.

Currently sitting at 187 bayonets, over 200 WW2 vintage USN-MK2/USMC 1219C2s and USN MK1s, just under 100 swords/sabers and military bolos/machetes, over 600 Westerns, over 500 Kabars, and then there's the groupings of dive knives, Spanish made blades, foreign military knives, BSA/GSA knives, US military cutting implements that are NOT USN-MK1/MK2 or USMC 1219C2s related such as JPSK knives, "demo" knives, etc. Then there's the TBS tubs. It currently has over 300 that need to find new homes. So I guess I have about 2800+ in the collections and accumulations, with the TBS tub bringing the total to just over 3100 S&POs.

I don't know what I am , for me part of the fun is the hunt. The never ending search to find that next awesome knife. I probably only rotate about 5 or 6 of them out of the 60+ I own. I tell myself to get rid of the ones I don't carry but that usually never happens, I usually just end up trading them and then I'm back where I started.

Currently I own 12; 11 folders and 1 fixed. Got another fixed inbound though.
Over the past year or so Ive been decreasing quantity for quality. Trying only to keep favorites and sentimentals.

25 or so but only EDC about 4 of them in my rotation....

This could be me. Maybe. I know that I have at least 25 but I am not really sure how many I own. I have about twelve that I rotate through, with 6 that see most of the pocket time.

I have recently been cutting back. Can't you tell?

4 folders and 2 fixed for a total of 6. I also technically have 2 more folders in my possession but they're up for sale.

I tend to own folders (or fixed) which I admire...for looks, design, or blade-steel. I have multiples of some favorite folders, and tend to be a Spydie-nut.

A "collector" usually has some sort of a direction in his mind

It is hard to define "collector", but that's a good way to put it. I may have 100 knives of varying types, but for the most part I'm not a collector, I'm an accumulator. My direction not is just buying knives that I am interested in. A long time ago I bought custom hunting knives, that would be closer to being a collector because I had some focus. I think there are a lot of people here that can be classified as collector, but I think most of us are closer to the accumulator category.

I collect knives, and I'm addicted to buying them.
Does not mean I'm on a binge. I never have more than one piece in the mail at the same time :)

I don't know what that means. Are these all the same basic knife model? Are you saying you're a knife collector?

I tried collecting, but I felt very overwhelmed when I got to 7 knives. I buy and sell a lot, because that's part of the fun I have. I have a Schatt and Morgan Moose; I have all four of the new GEC #77 Barlows coming; and I want a Schatt and Morgan Senator. I think about them in terms of their purpose - the moose would become a duty knife because it's on the heavier end of my spectrum and I don't like to carry it that much, the #77 an EDC, and the Senator a dress up knife because it's smaller and lighter and just elegant.

Just wondering how many knives you guys and gals own. I've bought ten in the last 2 months and sold five. I own 20 knives at present. My favorite fixed is my KA-BAR, folder is my benchmade mel pardue and my Blur. Favorite tactical at the moment is my emerson wave CQC. Favorite neck knife is the Schrade mini karambit.

Tell me of your collection. Just want to make sure I'm not the only one obsessed with knives.

What's the difference between a "collector" and one who is "just addicted to buying knives"?

A collector has order and purpose to what he buys.
Maybe he buys every version of a specific pattern.
Maybe he buys every knife a certain company made within a certain time period.

Me, I'm not a collector. I'm more of an accumulator. I have no one knife type that I buy. I just like knives and like to try different patterns and alloys. Modern knives and traditional knives. Various designs and patterns. I'm also a steel junky. I like to try different alloys. I have more than 50 but less than 200 is all I will say for number. Some of them I've had since the 1960's.

I have bought one knife this week and sold 5, but my general trend is that of knives increasing...
Right now I sit at 116 (I just counted lol), which doesn't include kitchen knives. It also doesn't count the handful of knives that are dismantled on my workbench waiting for new covers, scales, or handles:)
Nice ernie

As of today, my collection stands at 96 folders, 79 SAKs/Multitools, 51 fixed blade knives, 26 machetes or large blades and many sharpening tools and implements.
Blades for 10 lifetimes, really.

A few of each category see much use, a few others occasional use, the rest are backups, stored in cars/emergency bags/key places around the house. yet I still look at new arrivals sections, browse the forums and check for new videos, shows and products each week.

I guess it just distracts my mind after work or when I want to forget all the shitnews, crapTV, society falling apart outside and the general mess life is.
As far as trading and selling, I do it on very few occasions, but as money is not a concern yet I try to live my life doing, having and using what I like the most and enjoy. I don't have many other hobbies or spend money on drinks/bars/clubs etc. so I stand as a true and single knife nut!

YMMV, I understand having only users and of course selling whatever needs to be sold to get through financial problems and economic trouble, but I fortunately have not been there yet!

I have about 10 of varying types. I think I'm going the opposite way as I seem to be looking at more and more knives that I would like to have.
