How Many Knives Do You Own? Best Experience?

I'm out of fingers, toes and other... I'll get a few friends over and keep counting... I have a few. It's a sickness.

I tend to like my cheaper knives more (I guess it's easier to forgive a little bit of weirdness if you paid little for it)

It's also funny, I would have never called what I liked and what I don't like till I've had it in my hands for a while. Like I thought the Ontario Rat2 1 was a seriously ugly knife, but too many people said good things about them and it was cheap enough... I got one. I got it, it's ugly in person. And big. And heavy. And I love that knife. In practice it doesn't seem big or heavy in your pocket, and it's so well balanced, easy to use, and holds a killer edge...

I also love my Mannix II lightweight. It's a funky blue, it's a great big knife that's _really_ light, like lighter than a lot of my others, but honestly, it's a bit big for some EDC tasks. I also got it crazy sharp, and it stays that way, but with some surfaces it just doesn't cut well, which I can't explain. OTOH, It's still been in my pocket almost every day since I bought it like a month ago or so.

My Kershaw Chill is probably the most practical knife I own. My kershaw blur is one of my favorites, and I can't tell you why (it's whicked fast and looks great, holds a great edge... but it's too big, the thumb studs are sharp and they seem to stay that way no matter what I do, it's always in my way in my pocket (and typically cuts up the back of my hand when I reach in to get something else)... I still love it...

I can keep going...

Oh, I have a japanese peasant knife, a Higonokami, I love that thing... cheap and rough, and the laminated carbon steel blade holds a brutally sharp edge

I'd have to go look at the pile to tell you what I hate, I just don't carry it if I don't like it, but I also don't remember I have it. Oh, something just came to mind- all my ckrt knives... I keep trying, I have friends that like them... I can't stand them. lop sided grinds, don't hold an edge well, clunky to open, and even with a sharp edge kind of feel like they won't cut, oh, and the pocket clip is too stiff. They look good, don't like them. I doubt that I'll try again. My SOGs. I hate my flash 2... I should like it. Good size, sharp... wobbly blade, thumb stud doesn't want to stay, ugly factory grind... the twitch II which is sold as a utility knife is _much_ better in a very similar format/size/shape but still not perfect.

Oh, nothing that I own came with what I thought was a decent edge... but I guess that might be a personal problem ;)

Not counting multi-tools, at this exact moment I have two.

I am a noob at knives and have a mere 11 knives. I am sure everyone on this site has twice as many as me.

Not sure the average age of BladeForums members, but some of us have been collecting / accumulating for a long time. :)

To answer your questions, my Accumulation / Collections contain about 500 knives. And my best experiences have been with custom makers, either purchasing truly custom-designed knives directly from the makers, or utilizing the BladeForums "For Sale by Maker" section.

I don't have near as many as Bob does, but I think I'm at just under 200 knives now. I've been focusing on Spyderco lately and have just over 80 of them. All I can say is that it's a good thing that I didn't discover Blade Forums way back when I STARTED collecting, or God only knows how many I'd have by now.

I think my best experiences are having somebody notice one of my knives and have it lead to knife discussions. It's actually jump started a couple of folks own knife collections. Another great experience is finding a specific long discontinued knife and the anticipation of it arriving. Sometimes I feel like a kid waiting for the mailman to arrive with my new toy :)

I have over 75, 65 SAK's, Grohmann DH Russell, Case Mini Trapper, Leatherman PST II and Micra, Schrade, Old Bowie with leather ringed handle, Imperial (USA) and a half dozen cheapie ones. Still adding to my SAK collection.

My knives are so scattered about, I don't even try to count them anymore. I haven't really come across the perfect knife yet, but I do occasionally go on a hunt for the best cheap folder. So far a Timberline Kelly Worden has been the best twenty dollar folder I have ever bought. My favriote knife is my Benchmade 550 Griptilian, its just a handy folder, but I'm sure that will change. Like my taste in woman.

I have never counted how many I have.I try to focus on high quality production and limited edition knives that I would actually use.My best experiences have been with Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw(ZT)..

I have six now. One is soon to be sold, one is for sale, and one was a graduation gift. So I'm pretty much at three usable knives... :(
I've owned and sold 250-300 in the past three years in my quest for the perfect one(s) for me.
All I want is a few quality knives: EDC, light EDC, fixed blade for the woods, and maybe a neck knife to wear in the shop.
I have the EDC and the woods knife so far!

I have about 20 or so at the moment. I traded and sold a bunch from most of the major manufactures. They all were good and bad in certain ways but I think my large inlay Sebenza has all good traits put together and none of the bad.

I own about 6 folders and 6 fixed blades at this point that I can count off the top of my head and that I use. I have some cheapos stashed away in places like under my seat in the truck but don't really consider them part of my "collection."

I'm certainly no advanced knife collector though. I just like knives.

I own around 300 or so from a Micheal Prater Buck 110 down to unnamed Pakistan cheap. But the best experience & the one that keeps sneaking onto my belt is a little Buck 55.

I was in the high double digits when I realized that I don't need so many and I need more quality knives. Cheap knives are fun at first, but they are often times better off being browsing pieces. When I had realized that the money that I spend on a bunch of cheap kershaw and cold steel, I could have bought a Benchmade or two. Definitely quality over quantity.

So I take it your not a Cold Steel lover like myself, but no your right with the money I wasted on cheaper knives earlier on I could have gotten some more quality knives but thats how you learn right, hindsight.

One light saber................... Cuts anything. It's all I ever need anywhere

I know the OP is young and eager starting lots of thread but that doesn't mean you need to follow him around and post "light saber" time and again. Put him on ignore if you don't want to see his threads.

I have somewhere between 60 - 70 knives. Mostly production and a few mid techs.
I stuck to sub $30 knives for a while and then splurged and spent $66 on a BM Griptillian 551.
That knife gets a bad rap here, but I don't care what anyone thinks, it is still one of my all time favorites and is my go to work edc.

Around 20, from beater machetes to custom. My current most precious are a Helle Lapplander leuku as a big blade (swift, easy and very effective at rough cutting to light chopping jobs), and the Morakniv Classic Original N°2 as an EDC (always a joy to use for its supreme cutting power). There are more powerful or more snazzy contenders in the drawers, but I always end up with these two because of the pure pleasure it is to use them (their insane lightweight is part of it, obviously...).
