How Many Knives Do You Own? Best Experience?

Woops...

I just had a bladeforums Kershaw Skyline show up, and I have a regular skyline showing up later in the week...

Yea, i have a problem, don't tell my wife.
;)

I'm out of fingers, toes and other... I'll get a few friends over and keep counting... I have a few. It's a sickness.

I tend to like my cheaper knives more (I guess it's easier to forgive a little bit of weirdness if you paid little for it)

It's also funny, I would have never called what I liked and what I don't like till I've had it in my hands for a while. Like I thought the Ontario Rat2 1 was a seriously ugly knife, but too many people said good things about them and it was cheap enough... I got one. I got it, it's ugly in person. And big. And heavy. And I love that knife. In practice it doesn't seem big or heavy in your pocket, and it's so well balanced, easy to use, and holds a killer edge...

I also love my Mannix II lightweight. It's a funky blue, it's a great big knife that's _really_ light, like lighter than a lot of my others, but honestly, it's a bit big for some EDC tasks. I also got it crazy sharp, and it stays that way, but with some surfaces it just doesn't cut well, which I can't explain. OTOH, It's still been in my pocket almost every day since I bought it like a month ago or so.

My Kershaw Chill is probably the most practical knife I own. My kershaw blur is one of my favorites, and I can't tell you why (it's whicked fast and looks great, holds a great edge... but it's too big, the thumb studs are sharp and they seem to stay that way no matter what I do, it's always in my way in my pocket (and typically cuts up the back of my hand when I reach in to get something else)... I still love it...

I can keep going...

Oh, I have a japanese peasant knife, a Higonokami, I love that thing... cheap and rough, and the laminated carbon steel blade holds a brutally sharp edge

I'd have to go look at the pile to tell you what I hate, I just don't carry it if I don't like it, but I also don't remember I have it. Oh, something just came to mind- all my ckrt knives... I keep trying, I have friends that like them... I can't stand them. lop sided grinds, don't hold an edge well, clunky to open, and even with a sharp edge kind of feel like they won't cut, oh, and the pocket clip is too stiff. They look good, don't like them. I doubt that I'll try again. My SOGs. I hate my flash 2... I should like it. Good size, sharp... wobbly blade, thumb stud doesn't want to stay, ugly factory grind... the twitch II which is sold as a utility knife is _much_ better in a very similar format/size/shape but still not perfect.

Oh, nothing that I own came with what I thought was a decent edge... but I guess that might be a personal problem ;)

Maybe it's just because I tend to buy "cheaper" knives, but I almost never like them best when they first come out of the box. I almost always want to put a new edge on them, there's almost always some "tuning" to be done, they're usually stiff... I don't even think that i'm that picky. One that really surprised me recently is a the standard skyline vs the blade forums one... the blade forums one seemed to have better fit and finish, the action was much nicer... but the standard one had a better edge on it.

I usually like them best when I first get a nice edge on them.
