I wanted to post the same thing, but didn't think people would take the time to answer. Ive got two fixed blades each with a specific purpose. My ESEE 5 is a full out camp knife. I've got a custom that I keep in my "oh crap" bag. Other than that I have 6 folders. 3 Spyderco and 3 Benchmade

Between 50 and 100 knives?! Whoa... that would stress me out... I can't see myself ever KEEPING m9re than 10 folders. I have my eye on one more Benchmade and a CRK and I think that's going to be it for a while

7 folders, 1 fixed, 1 Leatherman, 1 little SAK.

I stopped getting performance improvements after getting a Manix 2 G-10/S30V. Since then, I'm just adding users that are wants.

Well if we're going to get down to it, I don't need any of my knives except the ones I keep in my bug-out-bags. I could get by quite easily on a day-to-day basis with my Micra and pair of ordinary office shears.

Do you bug out often?

Playing ;)

No, thank God. :)

Fact is, I own knives because I like knives. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only reason that's required. And for reasons that surpass all human understanding, my wife lets me get away with it. ;) :D

- there was a guy who wanted advice on how to liquidate his father-in-laws collection of ~1000 knives.
- there was a guy who was asked by a friend to set up a website to sell his collection worth $100k
- yesterday someone mentioned they had 500 knives

Curious about how many knife enthusiasts are also addicted or 'knife hoarders'.

Before BladeFourms it was 5. That was 50 years of knives for me. Since joining BladeFourms less than 1 year ago, I have added 18 more, and I just ordered another knife yesterday.

Right now: 23

More than a few, less than a boat load. :)

I have less than some of the people on this forum, but I have more than anybody I know in "real life".

Err . . . ummm . . . well . . . Hell no! I can quit anytime I want to. ;)

Seriously, I'm a full-blown addict. I was born an addict and I'll die an addict. The choice I have isn't whether to be addicted, it's what to be addicted to. And in the grand scheme of what I've chosen to be addicted to in the past, knives are about as harmless as it gets.

Edit: I just had a funny thought. I rail at those who proclaim that if you don't use your knives, you've got no reason to live. Who the hell uses 100 knives? Clearly the brains of the folks who say that don't work the way mine does. And it's why I've said and continue to say that there's no WRONG reason for owning knives. As long as you can afford them and you don't do damage to yourself or others with them, the desire to own them is the only reason you need.

Rant off!

Before Blade Forums? About 10 if I remember correctly. After reading the EDC threads? I'm up to over 50 now. Some are just inexpensive SAK's. But I now also own a small and large Sebenza, a Busse custom and have two Swamp Rat customs on the way. It's a fun sickness. And yesterday I saw the Gold Class Griptillian on the EDC IV thread. Love it but man it ain't cheap!

I've been too afraid to count, but I also inherited a bunch from my Grandpa, so it's a little inflated. I've probably bought 50-100 knives on my own, but the majority of them were inexpensive. I inherited probably another 100 from my Grandpa.

It isn't hard to end up with a decent-sized collection if you've been at it a while:

Imagine someone who's 45 years old, they average only one knife per month, and they started when they were 10.
They'd have 420 knives collected/accumulated.

Now imagine that same accumulation rate for someone who's 70.
Or do the math for a more aggressive collector who averages one knife per week...

Whoa, in my head I can hear the wife's voice going "how many knives do you own?" As I find another knife I want.

"You already have so many, don't they all cut things?"

I usually retort with "How many expensive purses do you have, again? They all hold things, right?"

I have ten working folders, and three fixed blades. I say working because I have a few worn out and/or inoperable knives sitting in a drawer. This time last year I owned 25+ folders.

I have a box that holds 12 knives. I enjoy the challenge of trying to not have anything else besides those 12. Makes for interesting decisions.
