How many of you are the only knife carriers you know?

I just had this thought. I go to college and I am the only one I ever see who has something sharp clipped to his pocket. Just me. The last time I've seen someone carrying a knife was Dec. 31st when I saw a friend from high school with a Gerber fixed blade in a sheath. He is, though, a Marine.

Is this true for anyone else on this board?

Besides the keychain penknife that never sees use, I know only one person on campus who always carries a knife, and it's a Gerber second-rate that isn't sharp. He mostly keeps it to flick open and was wowed by my Kershaw Leek. *sighs*

My brother has a Blade-Tech ProHunter Lite that I gave him. I'm not sure if he EDCs it, but he always has it when he comes to visit. The maintenance guy at my apartment complex has a slipjoint of some kind (looks like a stockman pattern). I see a few random clips in pockets occassionally but it's mostly Gerber stuff. Aside from some people that I've personally given their first knives and a couple of forumites I've met, I really don't know/see many carriers.

I suspect it is the enviroment. It's a school (and the surrounding community), so most carriers keep a low profile.

Once people knew I was into knives, I was suprised at the number (and sometimes the quality) of knives around me.

Then too, after years and years of "no tolerance" indoctrination, many of the people in the 18-24 age group have no desire to carry a "weapon," at least until they see how useful a knife is in many everyday situations.

I keep mine in my pocket fully concealed. I see no reason to do otherwise. My University is fine with me carrying a knife, I just have no urge to broadcast that I do. I have a friend who carries a kershaw vapor at my school, but that's the only person I know of other than myself.

On my campus I know of only 3 other people who carry a knife everyday. One carries a BM grip or Native, one carries some sort of Gerber and the other some CCC.

My brother EDC's a knife although he's more of a gun nut than a knife nut. There is hope. I gave my siter in-laws boyfriend a Spyderco Byrd for Christmas and Benchmade Pika. Last time I saw him, he was carrying the Byrd.

Good topic! I can't think of any of my close friends who do, sadly. I even gave one buddy a Vic Rambler keychain knife for Xmas a couple years ago so he'd stop mangling the lids on beer bottles and have a proper opener with him at all times. He was very gracious about the gift, seemed to really like it. But I've since noticed that it's not on his key chain and he still opens beer bottles like a caveman, prying them off (eventually) with whatever's at hand. :jerkit:

A few weeks back I was going with a friend to a govt. office to sign some paperwork for him as his witness. Going through security we had to empty pockets, of course. The security guard very courteously took my Buck 55 and gave me a receipt for to pick it up on my way out. As she was doing it, my pal, a guy I've known for YEARS, chuckles and says, "You carry a KNIFE!?" As if I were either A) some kind of hoodlum looking to stick a clerk in a liquor store of B) some whittlin' grampa from backwoods Kentucky. :jerkit: I just said, "Every day. Don't you?"

Also, a couple years ago my sister-in-law suggested my wife and I buy her husband a SAK for Christmas. I was jazzed to go knife shopping of course! I showed her my 84mm Tourist and she said it was EXACTLY what he wanted, something handy by not too big and not too small. So he opened it on Christmas and seemed to REALLY like it. Alas, it's been two+ years and I've never seen him carrying it.

My dad carries a SAK Classic on his keychain religiously and uses it all the time.

Yeah, I am it. Actually, my Mom carries a knife too. (She lives in NJ.)

As of 3 years ago I was the only person I knew who EDC'd, except for one guy. But he didn't carry a normal EDC knife... He refered to himself as a "street [bad word]" even though he was white. Really he was just a mall ninja that thought he was L337. <--- True Story btw.

Anyway. The only person I know that EDC's is my fiance, and she only does that because I bought her the tools and told her to. Eventually she realized the uses of a good knife (osborne) and soon she'll realize the uses of a Leatherman. Picked her up one yesturday and she's actually pretty excited! Pretty soon my sister will also have a leatherman, or BM rescue hook and so will my brother-in-law. They both just love my all black XTi, her new style wave and our micra's.

I'm really excited about my sister and bro-in-law getting leathermans. For the first time ever they actually asked me to bring my knives over so they could look at them and ask questions about them. I've never gotten anything but weird looks from them. They never cared before, but they're starting to :)

EDCing FBs is amazing.
As for folders, I am the missionary. At my university, we're more often in need of corkscrews than of knives... so I started with a Laguiole as an office knife. Then I brought my sashimi knife to a staff party for which I'd made sushi, that's always a good starter for knife/food/Japan talk.
Now I'm giving away Chives and LaGriffes and Mnandis and Jesters to the sheeples around me... but even then they don't EDC it in their front pockets.
Well, missioning has the reward in itself :)

Most people I know carry at least a SAK classic on their keyrings and my brother-in-law always has a small lockback in his pocket but I'm the only one who sports a knife with a pocket clip and even those who see me with it every day still make snide comments. And the biggest folder I ever carry is a Caly Jr. so we're not talking scary knives here.

I'm the only one in my direct environment that I know of that's carrying knives.

All the others around me think I'm nuts spending that much money on knives. They rather chew a box open than use a knife:barf:

That's why I'm so happy I dicovered these forums

I'm the only person I know that alway's carries a knife, though one friend of mine carries his 110 after school sometimes.

Three of my good friends carry an edc. One carries a BM 530s, the other carries a Manix, and the last one rotates between his edc's.

I'm the only one in my circle who is freak enough to have more than a SAK. A friend of mine sure as (illegaly) a balisong in his schoolbag, but since it's illegal, he do not really use it.

I see quite a bit of clips in pockets at school. More than I thought I would.

It's the ones who DONT show you they're carrying ya gotta worry about. :)
