How many of you are the only knife carriers you know?

In my immediate circle, I was the first to start EDC'ing a knife, about 3.5 years ago. Since then, my step-dad and younger brothers have both gotten into carrying a folder, as well. My step-dad and one brother have had (and lost :o ) Griptillians; now, my step-dad carries one of the new Buck framelocks with 440C (I don't remember the model) and one brother carries a Kershaw Vapor; the other has a Buck Prince that needs replaced, as he broke the tip on it. My stepdad can't get through the day without his knife; it's nice to be understood  . I've also made my mom a fixed blade to carry in her purse for whatever she may need; it's a bit thicker in blade and designed as an emergency tool more than a slicer. Next up, I'm gonna make her a thin, small keychain fixed blade with a kydex sheath for slicin' duties. Due to my influence, one of my brother's friends has also started carrying a folder on weekends.

So, in short, my family edc's knives, and some friends are catching on, too :)

My brother has started building a nice EDC rotation out of gifts from me and my dad. My father has always carried knives, he likes old style pocket knives and his Victorinox Hunter is as modern as he will get (he's not old, he just has that kind of taste in knives).

Only two of my friends EDC knives, SAKs, which are excellent EDC knives IMHO, but they still look at my folders as weapons although they've used them time and time again.

Friend of mine (Dan GSR on this forum) enlightened me about carrying a pocket knife all the time so I wasn't the first amongst my friends. Slowly but surely, other friends are purchasing knives to carry around too. It's not cumbersome in anyway and now, I feel almost naked if I don't have a pocket knife on me.

Slowly but surely, everybody I know will eventually carry:

A knife
A gun (with two reloads)
A super-expensive flashlight (Surefire)
A lighter

Everybody thinks I'm nuts for ALWAYS having the above items on my person, but they all seem to wind up carrying at least two of the items after seeing the wisdom of my ways.

When I was in college, a fair number of us carried knives. A couple of my friends were also into Spyderco, Emerson, and Benchmade. Aside from those, lots of guys had a SAK somewhere in their dorm, and a fair number of people carried either a SAK or a tactical.

I have a few friends that always carry knives. My dad, grandfathers and most of my uncles all do to.

my edc is a rat-7 fb and a large folder as well as leatherman charge ti.... i only know one other guy that edc's and he works for me and got sick of me saying 'just use your knife' ...so he bought a spyderco....lol

Aha! I just saw a friend of mine today, one of my best friends, to whom I gave my Kershaw Leek some time ago.

To give some background:
He didn't have a knife at all, so at first I started him out with an Uncle Henry lockback to teach him how to sharpen it. The occasion was a camping trip, and I said "no chance you're asking to borroww mine all weekend. Put this in your pocket." A month or so later, I noticed he wasn't carrying it much, so I asked him about it. He said he wanted something lighter, and something he could open with one hand (like most of the ones he saw me carrying). So, one evening over a few cold ones, I gave him my Leek.

Long story short, I saw him today and he had it in his pocket. I asked to see it, and sure enough, it's been used! It needed a sharpening, and to have some gunk cleaned off the blade, but nothing major. He said he carries it every day, and seeing how comfortably he holds and manipulates it, I believe him.

Yes! Mission accomplished, for now. One more person realizes how useful a decent pocketknife can be.

I'm not the only one who carries, I'm just the only one who give a da mn about what is carried.

I tend to be the one to go to for a knife in my circle, my lady is understanding of my, um, obsession, with knives but other than a Rainbow Leek and Cricket I gave her has not been bitten by the bug. As to why knives are big business despite so few who carry? you may have noticed what we carry is but one of many...

I don't see many quality knives around anywhere I go. A lot of people have some kind of knife but not many seem to carry clipped folders except some of my friends. One carries a S&W Baby SWAT. He won't carry Vics because he says he always loses them. One guy at school carries what looks to be Kershaw one-hander of some kind. I generally carry a German Army knife and sometimes a one-hander, a small fixed blade, or another, mostly carbon steel, slipjoint. Many people seem to be scared of bigger folders when I carry them, but mostly this just seems to be people who have moved into this area of the South in recent years. Most natives or long time residents seem to carry or be at least cool with others carrying. It does not hurt that knife collecting is also a popular hobby in this area.

I'm the only one I know of currently. A buddy always EDC's one small (cheap) knife or another but he moved to Texas almost two years ago. My stepfather is 87 & he carries every day (small slippie) but he lives in Florida.

Most of the people I work with likely have no idea I carry as my usual mode of dress for work is an untucked long-sleeved shirt over an untucked t-shirt. I've been asked a couple of times if the clip on my pocket was for a pager, depending on who's asking they either get "nope, it's a knife" or "don't be nosey". And while I don't hide the fact that I carry I do try to be discrete, in fact I get kidded & hassled far, far more about flashlights than I do knives...

I just got on the forums today, but I noticed that I am the only person I know who carries a knife. And to think that I worked in security for 2 years and nobody I knew carried! I also carry a surefire E2D Defender, but that just raises more funny looks. I go to John Jay for criminal Justice and it's just funny to see that these wannabe cops and do-gooders don't mind getting killed in the streets of the city unarmed.

lol, my mom my dad and most of my freinds carry one thing or another as long as i can remember, my dad has a buck hunter folder, mom has a kershaw leek i got her and i usually carry a smith and wessaon swat ot lately my crkt m16-13z and a smaller knife a gerber, and a small multi-tool of one kind or another, i remember the first pocket-knife i ever got from my dad i think i even have it somewhere, but as of lately the knife laws are getting stricter here in mi, im seriously considering moving some where where peeples eyes wont bug out of there heads when i produce a ugly scarred up folder to cut at something lol you get this weird reaction from em, even though you go thru the motions of casually reaching into your pocket so they know your going to produce a knife say to cut open a container i dont see what the big deal is

Started EDCing about 3 years ago. I'm the only one I know. One of my friends occasionally carries a spydie endura. But other than that, thank god for this forum.

I have been carrying knives since childhood. I dont know exactly when it started but it was after I moved out of NYC (at age 7) I can remember being a teen and having pneumonia and having my little stilletto with me in the hospital. The nurse found it and chided me, but just told me to keep it in my drawer by the bed after that. She was cool about it after we talked, and realized I was just a kid that liked knives, not some psycho(my assumption of her thought process)

Friends is a mixed bag. I find it unusual for my hunting buddies that don't EDC, yet have nice blades for hunting. I feel naked leaving the house without a knife, and have maybe done it a half dozen times in the last 25 years.

My uncle carries some small penknife, and I bought my father the Spyderco Salt 1 a couple of weeks back, which he carries where its needed, and keeps thanking me for it..

Previously he had a non descript lockback which cost him £0.99 (about $2) which he had for 30 years.... solid as a rock though lol

At the college I went to, more people than not have something clipped to their pocket. My friends mostly all EDC, my dad didn't but I bought him an oldtimer as a gift when he was my best man and he still carries it every day. It's beat to hell too.

Yep. When me and my friends go to the woods, it's expected that I bring enough knives to provide for everyone who comes along. I have a friend who has a Kershaw Vapor and I just gave him a Vic Classic to get him started on SAKs, but he doesn't carry it on a regular basis at all. I don't know why, but I know one reason is he's paranoid about anything that might get him in trouble with cops should he get searched or something. Some of my other friends might have knives, might even have them in their car when we go to the woods, but they're so dull that they always end up using one of mine either way.

So yes, only person I know that EDC's and apparently the only person I know who can sharpen knives.

One thing I wanted to mention though is pocket clips isn't the only way to see who's carrying. I could have 4 knives on me (G10 Cara Cara, Vic Farmer, Vic Classic and Buck Hartsook) and you wouldn't see a single clip. Some of us enjoy good ergonomics ;)
