How many of you carry over the legal blade length?

Questions like this really piss me off. There are enough people wanting to take our knives and firearms away from us without giving the anti's more incentive from stupid people admitting they are openly breaking the law (whether that law is "correct" or not, is besides the point).

Here in Belgium, most of the blades are prohibited. If there 's a problem It's the judge who decide after if your blade was prohibited or not

(stupid, isn't it)

You guys that are still burying your bodies are way behind the times. Ever hear of a chipper/shredder? :D

And, NO, I don't carry any knife over the legal limit. That would be illegal! :)

All of my carrying of illegal knives occured so long ago that the statute of limitations has run out and in an undisclosed state. Now when I feel threatened I just pick up the nearest baseball-sized rocks that I want to add to my collection. Sometimes I put them in a sock for easy carrying.

Stupid rules merit stupid solutions, so try this: whereever you go carry a big, sharp kitchen knife--and a sausage. If ever questioned by the law you can say, "What? I have this sausage and I need something to cut it." And no matter where you are going, you are always going to a picnic. :p

That's how many New Yorkers get around the concealed carry laws with regard to firearms. There are some shooting ranges that are open 24 hours a day. If you have a permit to carry to and from the range (which is MUCH easier and less expensive to get than a CCW), then you are perpetually on the way to (or from) the range...

The laws are so screwed up and lame in this 2nd amendment bashing state I have no idea if what I'm carrying is legal or not....Having read the laws I think it's up to the LEO to decide what they think your intended use was going to be...WTF

Rant Mode ON

Frankly I don't care what the law is! We (Knife Knuts) don't get any say in making the laws and we don't get any say in reversing the laws! And if you think we do you've got your head in the clouds. The system doesn't work unless you want the most popular (useually uneducated) opinion to become law.

Rant Mode OFF

Have a nice day! :)

I never knowingly or intentionally with malice aforethought or criminal intent, violate any statute, code, regulation, administrative code ordinance nor any common law, of which I am aware.

It's not a stupid question, but it may not be very smart to answer it.

Kieth,

While it is true that canada only sets out laws against autos, balis and pushdaggers... and no section regarding blade length on all others, I have heard from many LEOs that 6" in canada is the limit for urban carry.

I know that LEOs words are not gospel, unless that member of the LEO community wears a gown and sits up front while you plead your case.

Nicely put, WSD, nicely put.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

Since there is no "illegal blade length" here in Illinois, the answer is no. That's why I can carry a 24" long Bowie knife. However, in the eyes of many LEOs who don't know the law, anything over 3" is illegal, so you still have to do what you can to make it "look better". This comes from a misunderstanding of our criminal code. It says a knife with at least a 3" blade is considered a "dangerous weapon". However, simply posessing a "dangerous weapon" is NOT a crime. It only becomes a crime when you carry it "with intent to use same unlawfully against another". If you use it for legitimate purposes and don't threaten anybody with it, you are fine.

I only carry legal length knives in an urban enviroment. I also carry at leat 4 plus one in the car and a sambojack (sp) from cold steel. I don't kneed the hassel. I'd like to carry a bowie. I have a friend who carries a pole saw in his truck bed the pole can take diffrent attachments the saw comes off to be a 28" serrated nasty hooked blade with a good handle for gripping but it's for cutting trees;)
Peace

Good Evening All-

Blastjv, we haven't gotten to the point in our society where police officers are regularly searching people without cause and then busting them for knives .5" over the limit. If it gets that bad, we all need to start kicking it up a notch...

In terms of a prosecutor "finding" this thread, they would have to recognize your appreciation of the hobby, find this website, confiscate your computer, prove your screen name is "really" you, subpeona the webmaster, and probably about another half-dozen other tasks to make anything "stick" to you.

The complete admission that I did a sustained 115 m.p.h. on a highly-modified Honda CBR 600F4 on Route 101 South between Burlingame and San Jose late last week is also unlikely to land me in jail...even if they catch me next time.

I have talked to police officers that have said the same thing, the only thing is that it is not backed up by any law that I could find. Just because there is no law governing the length of a blade in Canada, it is up to the indivdual LEO to make their own determination of what they regard as legal, and up to a judge to decide if they were right.

No, I'm sure you're right. There's probably NEVER been a cop with an axe to grind who used an otherwise minor offense to give someone a hard time because of race, or not liking the 'looks' of the person, or a himself being in a bad mood, or pressure from his superiors to 'crack down'.

There's also probably never been a case where someone had to use such a knife to honestly defend himself and found that the prosecutor used the fact that his knife was an ILLEGAL knife against him in court in order to 'make and example' and seem 'tough on crime'.

After all, they're probably right; someone with a 2 1/2" knife is probably OK, but someone with a 3" knife is clearly a maniac looking for someone to stab!

Oh, and there's probably no PATRIOT Act, either.

PS - As Homer Simpson once said, "...By the way, I was being SARCASTIC!"

DOESN'T ANYONE WATCH LAW AND ORDER ANYMORE???

dude hes talking about the ontario knife company

jeeeeeeeeeeeze

I think that discussions about blade length too often ignore the situational context that a police officer has to consider in situations of knife possession. A flooring installer who has in his possession a relatively small linoleum knife at 4:00 PM during a traffic stop is not liable to arrest, whereas a kid with the same knife running the streets at 400 AM is very definitely going to get attention, even though the knife is of legal length.
