How many of you carry over the legal blade length?

I probably have and just didn't know it...

Personally I hate length laws not simply because they are a second amendment infringement, but largely because I find knives with small blades have small handles, which leads to lots of awkward grips and small cuts if you have good sized hands like I do. This isn't a problem with some small knives I've encountered thanks to good ergonomics, but I also cut manufacturers some slack because most people don't have such think fingers as I do. I feel a blade length limit jepordizes (sp.) my safety.

Also, do they really expect people to handle everyday cutting tasks with 2" blades? Longer cutting edges can be the difference betweeen one long smooth stroke and three or four little jabs... which is safer?

I think, for what it's worth, that you can pretty much carry anything you want to, as long as you keep it well concealed, and don't brandish it. I try not to do anything to bring the attention of officials to me. Before Orygun had the "must issue" concealed carry (handgun) laws, I always carried a large Bowie and a pistol of some sort. In over 25 years, I was never searched, nor was my car. Once, an Officer who stopped me for blowing a red light asked to search my car. I told him "No.", and he said he would get a search warrant. I told him to go ahead, and he left. Forgot to write my the ticket, too.

If I ever need to use deadly force, I'll worry about the civil and criminal codes after I've saved my (or other innocents) life (lives).

Hey, a fellow Hoosier.

I had asked a Marion County Sheriff a while back about this stuff, and he said that the limit is 4". I think that's just an urban guideline, though, because the only info I've unearthed mentioning blade limit is in the Indianapolis/Marion County Municipal Code, Section 451-5:

"No person shall sell, give, barter, exchange, lend or otherwise dispose of, or place in the possession of any known or suspected habitual user of narcotics or any known or suspected criminal or a person with criminal purpose, any type of machine gun, sawed-off shotgun, pistol or revolver, or ammunition therefor, or any knucks, billy, sandbag, dagger, dirk, bowie knife or stiletto, or any spring gun, sword cane or any other dangerous weapon of any similar character, which may be carried or concealed on or about the person and which are commonly used and fit to be used unlawfully to inflict harm on or to any person; or any tools, devices or jimmies commonly used for burglary. However, ordinary pocketknives with blades not exceeding five (5) inches in length and so known and sold in legitimate trade shall not be included in the terms of this section, and the provisions of this section shall not apply to any military forces, peace officers or other persons so excepted by law for the possession, use or disposal of any such things."

So basically we can carry what we want if we're not a druggie or criminal, and even they get to carry folders up to 5". I think I'll start looking into getting a Camillus CUDA MAXX.

Other than that, like you said, no autos, no shuriken. (IC 35-47-5-2 and IC 35-47-5-12)

I e-mailed an attorney asking about some of this. If I hear anything interesting I'll let you know, and any other Hoosiers if they want to speak up.

Good grief..........of course not! That would be against! the law!:D
I do however sometimes carry my small suitcase nuke and a tactical electric toothbrush!:p Never know when either will come in handy!

Seriously, it's a good question, but there is a risk of answering on a public forum!
