How many of you have just one or two knives?

I am getting there.

1 fixed.... my F1, has been my outdoors knife for seven years.

4 folders. My Military I carry every single day. The only knife I carry at work.

When not at work I'll carry a smaller knife with it. Either my PM2, Manix 2, or Native 5 LW.

The only other knife I am really considering is an Emerson CQC-7AW SF.

That one might push the Manix 2 and Native 5 out of my rotation and into my son's collection. Leaving me with 4 total. Don't think I can go lower. ;)

I had one or two knives when I was 10. Since then, the numbers have grown. Not to be a smart a$$, but I often buy a couple just about every time I visit this one regional knive store and spend a few hours browsing.

Sad that you felt compelled to sell off your knives. In most cases, the amount of money is meaningless in terms of paying bills unless they are special knives. My Brother in Law had a Moran custom that he had for years.... my sister twisted his arm to sell it and some other special ones. Of couse that one paid the mortgage for a few months. I hope life improves for you.

How many of you have just one or two knives?

Not sure that I understood the question... ON ME?

I'm in the process of thinning the herd, but when all is said and done, I'll have around 10.
Usually have 2 on me. Can't imagine only having one or two.

I only have/use two knives, A small BM707 I use for work, and a BM890 for when I'm not at work. For Me I don't see the need to collect. That's just not me. I might get a BM943 to replace the 707 though.

Kris,

I've certainly stopped buying so many knives, I used to own close to 50 but I'm in the teens by now. One or two though?
No

I used to have a rotation of 4-7 $200+ knives, constantly changing them out. These days, I carry almost exclusively knives under $100... But I'm still buying, selling, and trading, as I love handling all the new and different knives out there. I just have to be cautious, because it's a delicate system - it can only continue if I break even or make a profit each time. I try not to profit because I work pretty much do this exclusively here and on USN and I don't want to artificially inflate prices (good way to shoot myself in the foot) so I do a decent amount of trading - but I trade up and then have to sell occasionally to cover shipping fees.

Even at this very moment, I have 3 knives on me lol

I would like to be a one knife guy. It'd probably be my rockstead. But then I'd keep my umnumzaan. So there's two.

But then I need a small edc fixed blade... And also a beater knife... And a bushcraft knife... And I need one with a wharnclifffe blade... And a 3" folder for the office....

I own three knives right now, and want to buy a fourth very soon.

I've only been a "knife nut" for about 10 years, which makes me a newbie compared to many of the people on this site, but I have owned several hundred knives in that time. I had a period of about 5 years where nearly 100% of my disposable income went into collecting knives. I've owned 4 Striders, 2 Busses, 1 Sebenza, 1 William Henry, an Al Mar SERE, over a dozen Bob Dozier fixed blades, a few custom folders such as a John W. Smith and Emerson, dozens of Spydercos, Benchmades, Kershaws, and 1-2 examples of several other major brands. I never owned more than a couple dozen knives at once; I would sell off my least favorite knives to buy new ones and that cycle would continue. As my tastes changed, so did my collection. For example, at one point I sold off most of my tactical folder (G10, titanium framelocks etc...) and spent a couple years collecting Bob Dozier fixed blades.

Over time my OCD for collecting waned, and I started selling off all of the knives I didn't use or carry. I knew there were people out there that would get more use out of most of my knives, which just sat in a drawer, than I was. I sold many of them through Blade Forums, so I know they went to good homes :)

After trying nearly every type of folder I could afford, I really fell in love with the Axis lock. I love fixed blades in theory, but I rarely carry or use them and never really need them. I honestly don't "miss" any of the knives I sold. If I didn't carry it on a daily or semi-daily basis, then there is nothing to "miss" by selling it.

I currently own a Griptilian, a 710, and a Contego. The knife I want to buy very soon is an Adamas. With those 4 knives, I think I will be satisfied for many years. I prefer to have a small stable of knives that I really use, carry, pay attention to, and keep in perfect working condition (sharp, lubed, dialed in etc...) rather than having a lot of awesome knives in a drawer. I rotate those 3 knives depending on my mood; they all get used at work and they all get carried as EDC. If I lost any of the three I have now, I would miss them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning dozens or hundreds of knives at once; I'm just happy with 3-4 right now.

I know the thread said "one or two", but as knife nuts go, 3-4 is practically the same (league) as 1-2. I'd be happy with nothing but a 710, honestly. The "OCD collector" in me just focuses on other things now. Maybe I'll get really heavy into knife collecting again one day.

my collection is not even close to what some have. 3 xm18s 3 busses, a couple of Swiss army knives an RMJ hawk and gransfors axe. I used to have over a hundred, now I have no intention go go over 20.

"How many of you have just one or two knives?"

I'm sure that you mean: on my person at any given time or else, surely you jest!

Honestly, I could easily get by with three knives; one fixed blade, two folders (one to carry and one if I loose the carry). But that isn't a lot of fun.

I did go for years with only a couple knives. Then the BF bug hit me.

I have about 6 knives- folders or fixed- that I either use regularly or intend to keep, plus work-related products (multitools and the like). Anything that I don't use or don't need for a particular purpose starts looking rather useless after a few weeks.

Early in my collection, I hoarded knives - Mostly all productions. I've owned 90% of all the knives in the zt, spyderco, benchmade and kershaw lineup. The most I've ever had was probably 85-100.

As my tastes grew, I started selling them off, and moved into midtechs and higher end productions. Ended up with a lot of crk's, xm-18s, striders ect. I than got heavily into customs, and things went down hill pretty quickly. I was dropping $1000's at a time multiple times a month. I realized my collection was worth more than the equity I had in my house, and my stock portfolio was drained almost completely. Luckily my wife doesn't check that too often.

She got pregnant with our son 10 months ago, and I decided to liquidate and put it all back into savings. Currently, I have only two high end knives - My grail Shirogorov 95cf w/ s90v and my other long time grail, Rassenti Snafu. I have a zt0200 as a beater, a sak, a couple small custom fixed blades, and I still have a few very nice custom bowies from a few different Master Smiths. All in all, I'm very happy with my collection. I'll keep my carrying my Shiro, and probably trade my Snafu for something new to play with.

To me this ^ is responsible knife collecting. Awesome to see how your son grounded you, and that family is your priority.:D Your wife prob has a diamond...only fair that you have a couple high end knives! I figure that if I mostly buy used, and stay up-to-date on fair market values, it doesn't really matter if I have a bit more $$$ tied up in knives than I should, as long as I maintain the balance where I could sell most-all of them and recoup most+/- of my money should the need arise.

I don't use a credit card to buy knives, and I would not neglect other financial responsibilities to purchase a knife... Being able to own a knice knife (even for a few months) until I need to liquidate is part of the fun of this hobby, and worth the trouble to me. There are a couple of special ones that I hope to keep permanently, but it's nice to know I could sell a CRK for a few hundred bucks in an emergency. Also, having a wifey helps keep my OCD tendencies in check. Certainly if mamma ain't happy ain't nobody happy!

Sorry dude, my collection is growing. Only buying ABS Mastersmith, and Journeyman knives now. Only plan in keeping 2 production knives. Crkt hisshou, and a damscus bowie with sentimental attachments.
