How Many of you Knife fans like to hunt?

Compound and Recurve bow here. Turkey mainly. Nice to know everyone in the world isn't so domesticated that hunting is seen as "cruel".

Hey, DWK. Cheers.

I love to hunt game birds and ducks. Pheasants and ducks are my favorites but enjoy getting out for big game although I rarely take anything. I did kill my first antelope this past fall and it is utterly delicious and think better than beef. I skinned out my antelope head with a four dot 110 and it was slick.

I would like to hunt pigs someday if the opportunity presented itself, but with a rifle. I'll leave pig sticking to you younger folks.

I'm a hunter too. For me its part sport, part tradition, part skill building and part grocery shopping. Here's what I have from this year's hunt. For a single guy, this is enough to feed me for almost a year if I use it sparingly in my meal rotation. They are all approx 1 lb bags. It is actually quite economical after the initial purchase of hunting gear. Between bow and gun I can shoot up to five deer a year without purchasing additional tags. With that many, I can feed myself and give plenty to friends as well.

I grew up trapping, hunting and fishing. Now I just fish. I don't have anything against hunting for sport, as long as the meat is used. My biggest trouble going into the fields or woods during hunting season is; there are just too many irresponsible hunters out there for me. Maybe someday if I can pick up some acreage, that I can hunt alone and with family and friends, I might venture out again.

I grew up on a farm in western Pennsylvania, and hunting and knives were synonymous. My most prized hunting knife came as a gift from my Grandfather, a Western L66 he happened upon when he found it stuck in a log next to a gut-bag back in the early 50's. He gave it to me in the mid 60's. I used it to skin and quarter my first bull elk in "79". Used a German made ( Jos. & J.A. Schmidt ) pocket knife to skin muskrat and squirrel. Now living in Oregon, I only hunt elk and carry a Schrade sharpfinger and an old Marbles woodcraft drop point now. Both have done well for me. Dale H.

I hunt as well - been doing it since I was a kid and I would say that my interest in knives (at least how to keep them sharp:) was kindled via cleaning and skinning cattle and deer.

I enjoy hunting, not only does it get me the chance to go out and enjoy nature, but I also get to enjoy what nature can provide on the dinner table.

I hunt for two reasons-vermin and food, being honest I do more vermin shooting then anything but am probably gonna go food hunting more often in the near future.

I hav'nt been deer hunting in years, as I have no where to go still. But doves and quail fear me, and tell stories to their young about me in these parts.:D

I don't hunt.

I would hunt if it were my only way of obtaining food.

I don't have a problem with folks that hunt and eat what they hunt.

I think that people that hunt "big game" for sport are in the wrong. If they don't eat what they kill they are simply being wasteful.

I have some good friends that hunt and I have a preference for folks that use a Bow to hunt instead of a rifle. It requires more skill and if done properly it's more humane and requires you to actually "hunt" instead of sit in a tree with a scope and shoot from 100 yards.

I also think it's ridiculous that people hide in things and call waterfowl and then just shoot like gangbusters when the waterfowl fly over or in to land. That's crap.

I live to hunt Whitetail deer. It is a passion of mine. Nothing like some good venison.

I think you have some very narrow minded views towards hunting. It isn't as easy as you think. Real hunting is nothing like you see on tv. How would you like it if someone said knife collecting was okay but just as long as you only use everything you buy. I think it is ridiculous to make such ignorant statements about something you obviously know nothing about.

Opinions vary my friend. It's obvious that you really want to argue. Calm down.....it's an Internet forum.

I used to bowhunt before I got married. Now there is just not enough time to get out and practice. I can't even get out to gun hunt cause I gots no where to go. I don't think David Lowry means anything wrong about hunting. I think he means to say that it takes more skill to bow hunt instead of sitting in a blind in front of a feeder all day. I call that express hunting, and I have done it before, and will do it again when time is of the essence. I would really love to pick up bowhunting again, but maybe when the kids get older.

What is the importance of the 'skill' needed? It doesn't take any skill to go to the meat market, or to punch a hole in a cow's head with a captive bot. As for humane, deer don't always drop the instant they are hit with an arrow, they can run around and bleed out no matter what put the hole in them.

How else should they do it?

:jerkit:

I just spit coffee all over the monitor. Man has been hunting ducks like this since the beginning of time. It's how it's done. I don't shoot like gangbusters but in my old age have become a better shot. Different strokes. :jerkit:

I've hunted and fished all of my life and I will continue to do so until I do the great sleep. When I look for knives to collect the first thing I think of is whether or not they'd be good to use on big game. I'm not into the new stuff, and stag just makes me shake.
