How Many of you Knife fans like to hunt?

There was a time in in my childhood when I thought everyone hunted. I still live for it and hope that never stops. Most of the time I like getting out in the woods with one of my Silvertips, or a flintlock but enjoy taking my Winch. 71 or a Savage 99 for a walk now and then also.

Me, I like squirrels. Me and my Ruger 10/22 have taken down 400+ squirrels over the past 15-18 years. Once skinned I can tell if they are old or young. Old squirrels suck, throw them away or use them as trap bait. Young squirrels are tasty.

Have you tried them in the crock pot or pressure cooker? My Grandmother used to do the old ones that way and they turned out pretty tender.

What is the importance of the 'skill' needed? It doesn't take any skill to go to the meat market, or to punch a hole in a cow's head with a captive bot. As for humane, deer don't always drop the instant they are hit with an arrow, they can run around and bleed out no matter what put the hole in them.

How else should they do it?

That my friend is why I am a vegetarian.

Not really. You have your opinion and I have mine. No need for a condescending attitude.

Don't got one. :)

I just spit coffee all over the monitor. Man has been hunting ducks like this since the beginning of time. It's how it's done. I don't shoot like gangbusters but in my old age have become a better shot. Different strokes. :removed-jerkit-smile:

Nice jerkit smile that is only supposed to be used in Whine and Cheese.

I will bow out of this conversation now since it cannot stay civil.

I hunt turkey (Beretta 390, 12ga.), deer (Remington 700, 30-06), and squirrel (Thompson Center Classic .22). I stay in the woods as much as possible, I love the peace and quiet.

I have hunted all my life and will do so until I just get out there and do a decent job of it.

I love knives and I love to hunt. I made knives for several years and used the money made to purchase several guns. This Buck, my Biggest so far was shot with a Ruger MKII in 300 Win Mag. I have had it since 1992, the first year they came out in stainless. Scary Accurate. I cleaned him with my Buck Kalinga. I used a Chris Reeve Sable IV this year, it is my favorite now !!!

That explains a lot. My son is a vegetarian but he is not an idiot. You never should have entered this conversation as you are no better than a troll.

Nice buck! I killed a buck antelope this year, 175 yards with a .25/06, and used a four dot Buck 110 for the nasty work. It has been delicious and almost beef like. I have a .300 Win. Mag. but love this Ruger #1 so much I doubt I'll hunt with the .300 again.

Deer hunter and trout fisherman here.....been doing it as long as I can remember.

Way of life, I am 39 now and have been hunting with my Dad since I was 9. Now my 5 year old is about to start hunting with us next year. We start in Sept hunting doves, then squirrels in oct, deer and ducks/geese Nov, through Feb, then finish up with squirrels and rabbits. We eat it all, last year my family and friends went through six deer and two went to the Salvation Army kitchen. About 30+/- squirrels, 20+/- ducks, and well in excess of 300 bass/ceclia or speckled trout at one fish fry per month for whole family, wifes side and at least 30 fish per fry, and no telling how many pounds of crawfish were boiled. I have a bumper sticker on my truck that says Squirrel its what for supper, email if you want one as I had them made. By the way we deer hunt with and without dogs when we hunt with dogs we still hunt old school deep south style on horseback. Ya'll need to move down here, the fun never stops. Knives and guns are just another part of life, just like they should be.
.....sounds like a nice life. Some folks just don't have a clue that hunting and fishing put food on the table for plenty of Americans. God I hope that kind of lifestyle never dies. Keep up the fun, my friend !

- regards

Thanks !!! I shot this one about 75 Yards away, It ran away and turned and came through a thicket and almost ran me over ( was 10ft away ) Thats when I realized how BIG he was. I had to wait until he was quartering away to finish him off............. I have Ruger #1 In 375 H&H. I have shot several doe with it. It was my first Big Bore. They are very Sweet :thumbup:

Wow, a .375 for does!. My friends give me grief for using my .338 on average bucks. After I show them your post, no more kidding me!:D

Dude, 53 seconds in that Water Buffalo had an ear tag. Now where I come from those are cattle tags with #'s to keep track of your animals. I am not sure but if so.....LAME!

Thats the buffalos ear catching the sun, not a tag. you can see similar at 33 seconds.

I don't hunt, moral principle I suppose. Causing pain to a peaceful animal... I eat meat, however, and I believe if one chooses to eat wild meat by taking out an animal by hand (bow, gun) that's just fine. Pest control is something else altogether. But killing so you can taxidermy a head or snap a photo, or for the "rush". That's just weak. If you want to shoot something for no reason, fire at a target or join a war.

What do you think happens to the carcass after its shot?
