How many of you like to fish for carp??

In my younger years I would fish for them more than anything else during the warmer months. I've tried all types of baits and the most consistent and productive is oatmeal. It has to be the regular not the instant. Just get a small handful of the dry oatmeal and close your fingers around it as you dip your hand into the water. You flex your fingers enough to let in a small amount of water as you form a dough. It takes a little practice to get the right consistency and you have to use some caution when casting but it works. I tried adding flavoring and different cereals but the oatmeal was always the best. Shredded Wheat worked good but it tended to set-up too hard on the hook. I was never lucky enough to trade carp for beer but would be willing to start fishing for them again if I could.

You did what?

You... traded... carp for beer?? How is this possible? how did you do this? Please, let me know. I may never have to pay for beer again.

Funny, funny, stuff! Just a thought, but if the owner of the beer store likes fish (many asians like this type of fish), I'm sure they would trade.

Carpe Beer-em!

Hey if not the bones carp meat is very good tasting. With proper cooking the bones are not as bad. Talk to Asians and they love it. Many people from Europe love to eat carp. A few time i had so much fish i gave away a few to some old ladies at the place i used to live.. I were a good young man ever after lol.. Then i had to give some fish everytime as they would know when i went fishing lol. Most of them were old russian and one mexican ladies.. Feels good to see people smile when you make there day better.

You can also use any number of smelly concoctions in the waters you fish several hours to days before you fish to draw them in. We used fermented maize--think cattle feed,grain--because it sank.Fermented it in a covered 5 gallon bucket with grain, beer and water for 3-4 days. Some people in the South that have lake houses and docks keep them baited out all season. Draws in the catfish too--KV

A bow and arrow works well!

Yup, people around me use a bow to get them also. Around me, if you go early enough in the morning just as the sun is about half way up the carp flip around near the sure and you can damn near just grab them with your hands.

I've never really fished for one, but have hooked a few using catfish dough on a hook.

Many of the pay catfish places will buy carp as much as $1 a pound , they use them to feed there big throphy flatheads and blues that they make al their money on. Catch carp, sel carp and but knife.

When I was a kid we used to take the cheap corn flakes and add garlic and make a dough bait that used to work well.If I remember correctly some of the guys would add anice oil sometimes and I think that worked well too.

I fished for carp about 30 years ago so my knowledge is dated, altho they have not upgraded the carp :-) I used a worm and a small single hook. One thing that did improve my catch was to use a sliding sinker rig. Pass your line thru the sinker eye, then tie on a swivel. Attach a snelled hook to that swivel. This way the sinker slides and offers no resistance. Carp will take a bait very lightly, then move off a few feet and and eat it. Prop your rod in a forked stick and hang a bent twig on the line as a visual indicator. Watch the twig. When you see the rod tip move, pick up the rod and set it to free spool. Let the fish run free for a few feet and wait. Carp will stop, gulp the bait and then move off. DO NOT set the hook until after the initial "run" or you will yank the hook out of his mouth. Best of luck fishing. Fishing was one of the best parts of growing up.

I'm a catfish person myself

I fish for carp a lot. My biggest to date is about 60 lbs. A big head carp. They are strong fish. A few years ago I caught some black carp. Lb for Lb the black carp is the strongest fighter I ve tackled yet.

Here are a couple of pics of Pit Jr when he was a lot younger with some Carp that he caught, I don't know why he has his eyes shut on one pic though !!!!

I like to bow fish them in the summer time. Few years back me and a friend went down to the river to catch some bass and no luck but there were a lot of carp rolling under this mull berry tree so my buddy puts a berry on the hook and cast's out and hooked a 10lb carp

Well we did go fishing and got over 100lb of fish .... when pulling them out my dad lost them all when the string slipped from his hand.. We ended up with only two fish going home that we got before going home. Oh well next time we would bring them home lol..
