How many "pix of knives"?

WHY? I understand that you can cut up a banana just as well with a $5 knife, but a guy uses the one that he carries...for lots of daily tasks. No flames, just don't get your point.

I think it's less to do with the knife than the medium. My Delica slices bananas very well, but so does a Medford, or a steak knife, or a butter knife, or a paper clip. Bananas aren't much of a test. Double walled high-density cardboard on the otherhand...

OK- I should probably change my name to Old Curmudgeon, but really how many pictures of everyone's knives do we need to see in a thread like this? Does anyone actually got through 14,000 plus posts to see what everyone else owns? I think people are just posting here as some form of ego gratification (forum-bation if you will). If someone wants to show their latest acquisition or how cool their collection is, why don't they post it in a subject-specific forum (latest purchase, smoothest flipper, best steel, etc.) and be done with it. Don't threads run out of steam at some point; can't we just make this a sticky?
It's not for the one posting, we love seeing pictures of knives and that's all there is to it.

I didn't know you could cut a banana with a knife.

Why so many picture threads? Well, first, this is a forum for people who are so enamored by knives that they found themselves on a dedicated forum - aside from just chatting about knives, posting pictures is about all you can do. Collectors and enthusiasts are generally pretty happy about the things they own that are related to their hobbies or interests - and, since there are so many knives, the ones that they choose can be both matters of pride and reflections of their tastes / personality.

Secondly, some knives are too pretty to -not- just post all over the damned place.

I think a lot of people might be like me, and don't really have "knife friends" to show off their knives to that will respect them in the same way we do. Posting pics here seems to be a good way to show off our pride and joys to like minded individuals.

Not that I need to or buy knives to show off, it's just nice to do so sometimes, and nice to see others show off the things that are special to them.. but what do I know, I'm pretty new here.

What drives me crazy are the band spanking new $500+ knives posted in the “what are you carrying” threads. No idea how people carry and use these knives and they stay pristine.
I don't think I've ever posted a picture of a $500 knife...oh, wait, yes I did - but I admitted that it was only out for play, and I was carrying it in my hand.
I'll be the first one to admit that I don't NEED to use a knife all that often in the course of my normal day to day...so it isn't uncommon for me to carry a particular knife sporadically over the course of a year, and still have it looking great. That is especially true of my modern folders, because I always carry a traditional...and, on my days off, I'm likely to have a fixed blade as well.
