how much is your knife collection worth?

I purchased my first locking folding knife in 2003 when i was a senior in high school, it was the kershaw whirlwind. I thought it was such a great knife, and i still do. I ended up re-buying it about 4 times due to it being lost or stolen. So from 2003 to 2011 i owned just one knife at a time. Thst all changed when i bought a spyderco delica. I became so impressed with its ingenious design. I owned it for 3 years until i decided i wanted a higher fancier spyderco. I bought the native5 g10. So over 8 years i never owned more than one knife. Then once i got the native i bought the 940-1 a month later and now i buy a new knofe about every other month. Now im trying to slow it down.

Enough that I thought about it and added them to the home insurance policy which required me to detail them out. I need to update that list as there have been a "number" of additions since.

Thanks to those that mentioned a spreadsheet. Got one for the guns but not for knives.

As for total value, 20 times more than the wife knows about. I would be in so much trouble if she knew. That's why I give her one out of every five that comes in. So far, the scheme has worked.

No idea and don't really care to even make the effort to put a number on it. Since I don't sell knives, the value means nothing other than self satisfaction. I have considerable value (at least to me) tied up in firearms and that's enough for me putting numbers on things.

This is my thoughts I put numbers on my guns a few months ago for insurance purposes mostly. I could probably replace all my knives for ~2k but the memories and sentimental value is considerably north of priceless

The knives on my computer table are worth about 2700 dollars... i usually have more here to play with...

*spins 5 silver dollars*

Probably don't need to remind you, but keep those spread sheets some where secure. That is a gold mine for a scum bag would be thief.

I do like the idea.

Yes - password secured laptop, and in the cloud for backup. Good point.

Great idea! I had never thought about that.. I think I will too

;^)

I have the same kind of spreadsheet. It's really handy to keep me from inadvertently buying the same knife twice (unless intended). That should give an indication of how many knives I have. :p

I have 3 different knife values on the spreadsheet:
1. The MSRP (if available). I use this for insurance replacement value for most knives.
2. The actual price I paid for the knife. This serves two purposes; when combined with purchase date it helps me keep track of how much I'm spending on knives. It also provides really good info to give the wife if I ever decide I want her to divorce me.
3. Then, for some knives like customs or LEs, I put in a true replacement cost of getting a rare knife on the secondary market.

It's really cool that I can use the @sum feature to total up all of those values at the bottom of the spreadsheet...

I never scroll down to the bottom of the spreadsheet...

Yes - indeed, at least never scroll down there when the wife is looking. I do try to keep her jewelry collection value in pace with the knives. She is a shooter as well to the guns are for both of us, yea, that's the ticket. ..

Somewhere around $500 usd. I don't have many knives. Of the ones I have, all are users and nothing that folks here would consider high end. I have two that are irreplaceable for sentimental reasons, in that I grew up with them (buck 119 and USA made Schrade lb7) .. And even those are users.

The knives that have been important to me daily begin to be invaluable for all the service they provided. I wouldn't put a pet to sleep because they are old, same for knives. You take care of them and appreciate them for their utility and long term use which is priceless.

With knives... you get old and die. What is valuable to me often might have no value to folks likely to be rumaging through my stuff. Tis life.

Frankly, it is none of your business. And I don't think it is an appropriate question.

More than money could replace. Seriously, I try to let my kids know enough, should they decide to sell them when I'm gone, but I also share them so that they will have the added value given by the memories. I have each of my four sons already picking and choosing their favorites, and I'm not even 50 yet. Two of them already have a small collection of their own.

It's a lot considering the relative low number of pieces I own, but it's still much less than my favorite scoped rifle. I won't go much further as I have reached my state of bliss with expensive folders with a Chaves 228. Going higher than that is meaningless to me.

I honestly don't even know how many knives I have. Maybe 5 customs and 40+ High end productions

To answer the question honestly....

Don't know.
Don't care.

...

Allow me to add "Don't Matter" to your list. The collection is worth whatever someone is willing to pay at the time of sale, and that depends largely on the selling skills of the seller. What we have sunk into it or think it may be worth, is largely irrelevant.

Don't know. Don't care to know.
