Just curious as Im just a part-time maker/hobbyist how much time others spend in the shop making knives a week.

Agreed, Zaph. Too dang hot right now, but I can sometimes manage 15-20 hours/week in the winter. Doing good to make myself work 6 hours a week now though.

I usually go into the shop when the kids are in bed around 8:30 and come out around 1, plus I'll spend about 6 hours on Friday or Saturday in the shop. I actually spend more time in the summer than winter. I'd much rather sweat in the shop than to have numb fingers. It comes out to around 20-30 hours a week in the shop.

I live in my shop, all my time is not spent making knives but when I want to work on a knife I do. Have not been in my house for years.

Now that's what I call full time, Ed! :D

I spend about 30 hours a week in the shop, and if it weren't for that pesky "real" job it would be even more.

On weekdays, I only go in the shop after my son goes to bed and Im not in it constantly (as much as I would like), so only 1-2 hours a night. On the weekends, I go in when he has a nap in the aft and then again when he goes to bed so maybe 2-4 hours a day. Of course that all depends on how much I time I need to spend in the yard and doing other projects.

only 5 to 10. I wish it could be more! but when I work on my feet all day, when I get home I just don't want to stand at a work bench, and I still need to fit in my social life. still, if I could bump it up to 15-20 hours a week that would be nice :)

20-30 hours a week, but if i'm really focused on something I may spend up to 16 hrs+ plus before calling it a day, there have been a few occasions that I have walked out of the shop only to see the sun coming up ;0)

Well right now none because I am moving into a new house (full unfinished basement all for my shop woohoo!) but normally about 20-30 hrs.

Right now I'm spending 5-10 but between the heat and kids etc I'm finding it a happy medium for now. Now when it rains and its nice and cool outside only chores or watching kids stop me from being out there!

I'm at almost double full time right now! 70 or so hours per week of knifemaking.

5-10, not nearly what I thought I would be doing this summer.

Been working too hard weekdays then deciding to go relax and camp and do outdoor stuff on weekends...
I think I should act like a true knifemaker soon and hermit myself in the shop :D

I'm only home 1 week a month and I dedicate as much time as possible 20-30 hours of my week or more if I can get done with my honey do list

I'm 5-10. But closer to 5 than 10 and 90% of that has been setting up my new shop. I worked 10-14 hours every day this week and even the 14 hour day I went out and worked on some drawings and cleaned and organized. This is the first time I've had a shop at my house and I love it!
Last week I profiled 5 full tang drop point hunters and this week I'll grind the bevels.
I have a newbie(like I'm not one too..) coming over Monday to forge his first knife. That ought to get me my 5 hours minimum all in one day!!

I'm both jealous of and happy for anyone who gets more time than I do.

WOW! Do you still enjoy it as much or does it wear you out sometimes and just feel like work?

The more I get into making knives the more ideas I have and the more I want to make. It's addictive!

Some people have golf, I have knives... the quest for perfection.

Usually between 20-30 hours. More if I need to, less if I can. DeShop is heated and air conditioned, so that's not a factor.
