Good point on leaving out the phrase "first I'll take it..." in sales threads...

OTOH, it ultimately is up to seller's discretion who he sells to....still, I understand your frustration.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there's absolutely no reason for 80% of the verbiage used by sellers in their threads here. They see other people do it and they just repeat it in a mechanical fashion.

There is no need to say "first 'I'll take it' etc." Just sell to whoever you want to (if it's the first person to respond then that's fine) and break the news to any other inquirers in whatever way you see fit.

When I see someone go off one a diatribe of rules, I just assume they are gonna be a huge pain to deal with and move on.
There has been at least one knife in the past month here that I walked away from because I was correct in my assumptions... all the verbiage was there to tell me not to bother, but I tried to start a convo anyhow and it was going south quickly.

OK so a thread was started about the seller because they did not sell you a $25 watch and sold it to someone else? Really? Seems a bit irrational to me.
Have you made the seller aware of this thread?

Here are some relevant facts regarding the situation the OP is referencing:

1. I was the 1st person to express interest in purchasing the watch. I PM'd the seller to inquire about the size of the watch bracelet, as seen in original thread. I have bought and sold watches here and on other forums and most people like to know if a watch will fit before they commit to buying it.

2. Orca, the seller, replied to my PM indicating that he was not sure of the sizing but was willing to ship the watch to me on his dime without me pre-paying for the watch so that I could verify the sizing. In my experience those are the kind of manners that makes Bladeforums a great place.

3. The watch is in process of being shipped to me and when it gets here I will be able to know if it fits.

4. In post #9 of watch sale thread orca, the seller, explains to the OP of this thread, panoz, what the status is regarding the watch in question.

5. In post #11 of watch sale thread orca, the seller, respectfully acknowledges the complaint of panoz, and again explains the sale status and even apologizes to panoz for the confusion.

6. The seller of the watch has 233 all positive feedback ratings here in the last 10 years. I have 145 all positive feedback ratings here in the last 12 years.

7. In post #12 of the original sale thread, panoz states "I didn't realize that it takes 5 days to come up with $25. I was ready to pay the minute I responded, shame."
Communication tone says a lot here in my opinion.

8. In post #1 of this thread panoz states "Judge for yourself."
I couldn't agree more!

9. I am grateful to orca8589 for his polite and ethical sales behavior and would be happy to trade with him anytime.

No offense panoz, but those are the facts and that is the status of the watch as of this writing.

I agree that some sellers are ridiculously over the top with their policies. The guy constantly selling large numbers of basically new high end knives, but isn't a "dealer" comes to mind but I digress.

I think my terms are pretty reasonable:
-PayPal only, shipping included in price
-No trades
-US only (no NYC)
-Reply to claim then contact me ASAP

If that's too onerous for someone then I don't know what to tell you.

I understand frustration over not getting an item you want ... but that's life we don't always get what we want. And aside from that it looks like the Seller was more then polite and explained what was going on ... which he didn't have to.

I have several knives I'll soon be listing to thin my duplicates and some that just never got used ... but so many crazy threads lately with people having fits over nothing instead of communicating and having a bit of patience.

Making me wonder if I need an attorney to write my disclaimer for a sales thread ...

things that make you shake your head ...

That's pretty cool of him.

On other sites.

I'll take it

Beats all.

Except here on BF....

Sellers sells to whoever they want.

I have to put stipulations on my sales now, due to all the tire kickers I've experienced. I used to not put any kind of conditions for buying my knives, but after running into a few shady buyers and sellers, I have to now. To make it fair for all and give everyone a fair shot at buying. This is the only forum where I HAVE to put any kind of stipulations on my sales threads. Sure you can sell to whoever you want, but a clear "I'll take it" in my actual sale thread, has precedence....

Not high maintenance at all, but why list clear rules in your sales thread and not follow your own rules? And the funniest part is fewpop returned the watch and the OP is now willing to sell to me, and I AM buying it. So who is high maintenance? All that pm from fewpop, shipping back and forth and it didn't fit, you can't make that mess up for a "$25 watch". Lol

First, you never publicly expressed interest in purchasing the watch in the thread, you expressed interest in the size of the band, that's it.

Your quote
"PM sent re: the mtg900 with a question about bracelet sizing."

You also left out the fact that you never claimed the watch per the rules of the seller in the thread. I guess after all your days of comms with the seller, it still didn't fit? Luckily for you, the seller has a good return policy and shipped his own property to you at his expense to try it on, that's just crazy.
