How often are you adding to your collection?

I go through spurts. Sometimes I’ll buy three or four knives in a month and other times I won’t buy a single knife for a few months.

Life in The Netherlands has become so expensive that I can hardly save up some money for the fun things in life 😣

My collection has always been around 50 or 60 knives, I don't feel comfortable with a larger collection for some reason.
I shifted back from mainly full custom folders to vintage traditional knives since that's my main knife passion.
Occasionally buying something to add to the EDC rotation, but something else will most of the time be sold first.

I'am glad that the big 'itch or urge' to buy a new knife when I see one more or less belongs to the past.
After 47 years of knife buying, using and collecting I like the way things have slowed down a bit, I enjoy what I've got more.
Maybe 2 or 3 new knives for this year would be nice, we'll see what happens.

Not really adding and not really a collection. Mostly what I have are knives that well-meaning family give me as gifts that I do not use.

The other category is purchases to replace an EDC that I have lost. I average around one Leatherman Wave every 6-18months.

Compared to most on this board, pretty seldom. I've been regularly going to courthouses for about 20 years, and I got out of the habit of carrying a knife. Then a couple of years ago, I got the itch to start carrying one again, so I bought a couple. I bought a Spyderco and a Benchmade, and I haven't really bought anything since then. To be honest, I need ammo and more sharpening gear more than I need more knives right now. (Yes, I know that risks being called blasphemy on this board.)

I hover around 25-30 knives. I try to sell one most of them time if I'm buying a new knife. If a knife has been in my safe and never or rarely been used I tend to sell it or gift it to a friend/relative who needs a good knife. With the exception of a few upcoming knives, I have most of what I need/want. I try to limit my knives to what I will actually carry and use.

I buy something whenever the mood strikes me. My collection is well over 300, I think. However they are just stuffed places. Various levels of quality as my tastes and budget has changed over time.

Currently, my taste is such that $70 retail therapy isn't quite up to what I am looking for lest I grab one of the Cold Steel hawks/spears/whatever. Therefore my dollar doesn't stretch as far, obviously, since I am eyeballing $300-600 these days.

That said, due to the pandemic and the lack of ammo, my shooting hobby has all but dried to nothing. So what I would have dropped on guns/ammo, I just got more high end knives. I just spent the same amount of cash on a Microtech that you could get a Glock 19 for. Honestly, I enjoy my knives way more.

This is roughly 90% of what I was going to post, myself. I have a huge collection, but am at that point where many things just don't get carried anymore, so I probably need to start moving along some of those that don't get carried. I've always had significant ammo reserves, but lately, given how much it would cost to restock (even a normal range day would be a few hundred rds), I just don't shoot that much for fun anymore. That, plus the two best ranges near me closed down, so it's a bit of a drive to enjoy that particular hobby anymore.

Only 10... so far!! 🤣👍
It was a combination of watching the price slowly drop down on the Hinderer XM-18 I wanted until it was time to pull the trigger before they were out of stock; ordering a second Khukri; and deciding to clean up my Cold Steel older model want list after the Shot Show all at the same time. A perfect storm of knife splurging. I'm planning to take it a bit easier on the credit card for the next couple months, but there's still a few things I really want. Certainly, visiting this forum will help me with my self-restraint...

I just buy knives when I see one that I want. I'm waiting on my grandson's preordered Carothers UF2. I also preordered a Carothers DEK2, and I plan on buying a couple of DEK3's.

Last year was a big splurge for me but I ended the year by selling all but 5. I missed the Bugout I sold so I bought a new one this year and then I bought 1 more knife. Going forward the only knife I am aiming to add towards the end of the year is a Shirogorov Neon Zero. I'm just putting some money away each month to fund it.

I too have a guilt-free splurge account. Some months the contributions get spent out, but that isn’t often. So I find myself in the lucky position of having some decent equity in that account.

When my collection was in the 40-50 neighborhood, I had absolutely everything that I could reasonably want.

In 2019 & 2020 I only bought one knife each year, things that were truly special and highly desired (for example, one was a CF Inkosi to commemorate a special milestone).

In 2021 I finally decided to pick up a couple purpose specific knives I’d been putting off (a couple Spyderco Salts and a fixed blade camping knife). Well, that caused the dam to break…and I got a little obsessive…

…and then there was my first Microtech…then the second…then the third….and I’m waiting on a new run of a specific Troodon…and a particular UTX-85…and….oh well. i’m a lost soul.

I've bought more than I need that's for sure. I bought over 5 so far this year.
One was 300$ which is kinda over the top to me.

I'm going to try and take a time out as I use usually one of five.
I tend to reach for those and my pretty knife box is a spyders nest.

Whenever I see something that strikes my fancy I decide if I really need it or not. I thought I was done for a while, but saw the we subjugator and had to have it. So, another one in the collection. I think I have over 100? I lost track a while back... I just grab, use, enjoy.
