I have had 6-10 knives for as long as I can remember, but my EDC for the past 15 years has been a SAK - give or take a few days here and there. But that's about to change.
I recently went on a binge of buying several decent folders with blades sized from 2.5"-3.8". By my way of thinking I have now moved from "enthusiast" to "collector", although most if not all of the knives I purchase will get used. I don't really believe in the concept of a "safe queen". I also enjoy collecting midrange mechanical watches - I have about 25 of them - and I will rotate to a different one every week or two, unless there is a special occasion that calls for a particular piece. Now that I have a collection of good-quality knives at my disposal, I expect my behavior will gravitate towards that sort of pattern, after I get familiar with each of them. Over time, some will see more use, some less.
For example, I've been carrying a SOG Twitch II for a couple of weeks and I found that it's on the small side for my tastes - so it will probably fall into the "less" category. But I recently learned that 2.5" is the limit you can bring into government buildings so if I know I'm going to do government business, the Twitch will go in the pocket. Otherwise I'll probably reach for something a bit larger. I'm looking forward to getting to know each of my new acquisitions in this way.
