How often do you see 'higher end' knives out in public (other than in your own pocket)?

Greetings,

Just kinda kicking this around in my brain bucket tonight...

OK, so perhaps, outside of going to Blade or a knife specific show, how often do you actually see a something like a Hinderer, CRK, Strider, heck, even a for real Emerson, in someone else's pocket out in general public?

I think I've seen a Sebenza...once...

Take an XM-18 to a large 'fun' show and you'll probably have the only one in the joint...

Contrary to all the threads, discussion, and photos here, such 'exotics' certainly seem to be reclusive in the wild...

What say you??

Not that often, to be honest. I see lots of kershaws and bucks. Maybe that’s why we have forums. But I don’t own the knives you mention; Spyderco, Benchmade and ZT are high end to me.

There some forums members around here somewhere, but what I see are box openers, Bucks, SAKs and leather mans.

Never ever.

I see the odd Kershaw, SAK, Gerber, Buck and lots of $10 gas station knives. I actually don’t know anyone that owns a Hinderer, CRK, Shiro, etc. and have never seen anyone carry one in the wilds of Toronto, Canada. Maybe the very odd Spyderco?

In the bush I do see more Buck 119’s, but no ESEEs, Bradford, Bark River, etc.

Maybe we are all nuts? I am anyways. o_O

I don't think I've ever seen one in person period, I don't own or have any desire to own them and don't really see any knives people have other than the ubiquitous black leather Buck 110 sheath , the old brown leatherman sheath, or other tooled leather sheaths probably carrying Pakistani lockbacks.

Once, and only once, I had someone point out the CRK clip hanging out of my pocket. Showed my sebenza, but wasn't handing it over for show and tell. I asked what he had and he pulled out a Strider SnG from his pocket. We chatted for a few about knives and went on our way. This was at a Walmart of all places.

It's been about 4 years since, and not another encounter. Nowadays if I ever run into someone else carrying a Shirogorov, I'm going to immediately buy a lotto ticket.

Never, not once. I look forward to the day to talk knives in person.

Massdrop has gotten a foothold at my office. Got some Spydercos para3 and delicas , bokers and ferum forges there. Ex military will have Kershaw, SOG or Gerber assisted.

Haven't ever met anybody with something more high end like ZT, better Spydercos, ect..

I've seen guys with clipped knives I recognized as various Spydercos, Benchmades, and Kershaws. I think I saw someone with an Emerson clip once. I've seen a lot of Buck 110's in belt sheaths. I've never spotted anybody else with a CRK clipped to their pocket.

That's all I can think of right now.

One Sebenza and a Hinderer or two.

I was messing with a Chris Reeve Inkosi at work a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised when a younger guy asked, “Is that a Sebenza?” He had the wrong model but at least he knew a CRK when he saw it. I found out he grew up in Goergia and attended Blade Show regularly. He was carrying Spyderco Sage 2. I counted the experience as a win:D

Benchmade is the 'highest end' I've seen outside of specific knife enthusiasts. I have 3 coworkers who carry them. They are all sub $200 Benchmades though, and all 3 years old, or older, with considerable wear. Pretty cool imo.

I work in retail management, in Oregon. Knife country. Home of ZT/Kershaw, Benchmade, Al Mar, CRKT, and Gerber.

I see Benchmade very frequently. They seem to be the local pride brand. Leatherman, too. Kershaw is the next most common brand I see. After that... Spyderco. Mostly Delicas and Enduras. On rare occasions (a few/year), ZT.

I had one amazing moment when I was carrying my 0562 and ran into a guy carrying a Spyderco Tatanka (spelling?). We talked for a bit, had a bro hug, and went on living. Someday, that will become a bromance movie on par with the Notebook.

The occasional higher end kitchen knife, but nothing else, knife show/shops excluded - SoCal

Oregon shoutout.

Deleted. True story and a good one, even made the evening news, but evidently does not meet forum rules.
