How old should your child be before getting their first Busse Knife?

Buy the knife on New Years Eve, wait nine months, and then give it to your new son as a "welcome to America" present.

When my boy was ten I gave him a nice little Boker pilots survival knife. If your not familiar with the model it has about a 4" polished blade with small leather handle and a polished pommel. Its a pretty little knife. He told me he likes it so much that he is not going to use it because he felt it was special. He keeps that knife and sheath oiled up and shiny. Now he's twelve and has a nice little collection of entry level users including a Rat 3, CS SRK, Junglas and many others. When I get a piece of INFI I have been giving him my old blades in that same size range. He loves chopping, carving and fondling INFI. The Pork Shank looked really good in his hand, he may just get lucky one of these days and get it.

Rick,

I gave my sons their first knives when they were about 8 or 9. Obviously you know you own child, and I only let the boys handle the knives with my supervison and I would let them carry them on our hunting trips. A few years later I purchased each of them an SAR3 with chuddy bear sheaths and it is by far their favorite knife. They are 15 & 13 know and have at least 3 or 4 Busse and Bussekin knives of their own. Teach them while their young and they will never forget it.

I got my first knife and first gun for my 8th Christmas - a buck folder and a single shot 20ga. Use of both was pretty closely supervised until I was 10; after 10 I carried the knife everywhere daily and both were kept in my own room. This was in the late 70s...

Same here but early 70ies ,by ten i was shooting compitition trap But probley lost a few knives as a young boy I remember looseing a hunting knife as a kid that was passed down to me from my grandparents,My son was 14 when i bought his first busse he was about 12 when i bought his first jack knife which he still has
