How quickly do knives typically take to sell on the forum here?

I'm curious because I am considering becoming a paid member so I can start selling/trading knives here. I've been a long time watch guy over at the WUS forums and have been buying and selling watches over there for many years. Knives have slowly been replacing watches for me - mainly because I can't really afford watches anymore AND because I've pretty much owned every watch I like anyway, save for a Panerai. Anyway I'm at the point where I would like to sell a few knives that I have to fund others. I was always able to sell watches within a few days on the WUS forums, is it the same here for knives?

As a side note its a little disappointing imho that you have to pay to sell stuff here. That isn't the case at the WUS forums and people are selling watches that cost $10k and more.

Also, my apologies if this should have been posted in a different section, I'm not too familiar with the site yet.

Like Cobalt said, it depends on what your asking price is and the knife itself. I’ve had a knife sell within an hour of posting it here.

Also, if you don’t like the fact that you need to pay to be a member and sell here, there are plenty of other places you can take your sales to;)

I don't necessarily mind the fee (its not much money) PROVIDED that I can sell stuff relatively quickly. I understand that it is knife and price dependent, but it is also dependent on HOW MANY PEOPLE are looking. That is kind of the question that I am asking. Are there a lot of people browsing these forums looking to buy knives?

It my limited experience here this does seem to be a VERY active forum, but that doesn't necessarily mean the exchange is.

Right as I type this there are 899 members logged into this forum as well as 2,042 guests browsing, so you be the judge;)

There have been other threads where people ask what the secret is to buying here, because things happen so fast and they always seem to miss out. Hopefully that tells you something. Think I've sold 3 knives here so far and they took anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days to sell.

The popular knives that everyone is looking for sell quickly, i.e. sprint runs, well known makers, a particular knife some is looking for. Prices are dependent on the knife. The exchange is looked at by a lot of people every day. Some people buy memberships to just sell knives and not contribute to the forum in any other way. Those folks are avoided by some members here that buy knives.
I’ve seen some knives not sell and are re listed at a lower price.
IMO, no one wants to buy from a butthole, go read the Good, Bad, & Ugly sub forum and learn what not to do to be successful selling here.

If you're already considering it, do it. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place to sell your knives.

Make sure you read the Exchange rules and the membership levels before you proceed. Reading through the stickies and threads in the Feedback: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly forum is also a great idea to familiarize yourself with things you can do to better help your sales, things not to do, and people you may want to stay away from.

Is anyone familiar with the site watchrecon.com? The site essentially monitors all of the major watch forums and private watch sales and provides links to all of the sale posts on all of the different sites/forums. It also provides an overview of the sale listing, it is sorted by watch brand. Nearly every single watch I've ever owned I initially found on that site (the list is extensive and ranges from $100 Seikos to $5000 Rolexs/Omegas). Does anyone know if there is a knife equivalent? I did a brief google search and could not find anything. I'm not sure if the knife trading world is as big as it is with watches but if so, there should be a site like that for knives.

It’s not that tough if you have good pictures, descriptions, and a fair price.

On the other hand, it’s sometimes tough to get the attention of a good chunk of members if you’re only joining to sell stuff. This community is more of a family than a big outlet store/swap n shop.

That being said, it’s not impossible to only buy/sell here. It happens, people do it. It’s just not the main focus of this forum, it goes so much deeper than the exchange.

If you do decide to join, take a look around. There are some really good people here, and a wealth of knowledge. Welcome

Depends on the knives. Low end stuff is a waste of time, if i dont see the posting of what im interested in within minutes chances are i am to late.

The time and views are listed in the listings and it will give you an idea of the time it took to sell a knife or product. I see watches sell all the time in the gadgets and gear listings. I have seen knives sell in the first three minutes after they were listed.

Are these the "random jackasses on Blade Forums" that Nick Shabazz once referred to:cool:?

I want to start selling on the exchange at some point, but for now I have to say it is a great place to be a buyer. I've gotten some very good deals on some very good knives here. Having said that, most of the knives I've bought have been languishing on the exchange for some time (hint, hint, that's where deals can be had). So plan accordingly- the exchange is a perfect example of the law of supply and demand in operation. It can be a case of "he that snoozes loses" or "everything comes to he who waits". Best of luck to you.

There is a pretty high volume of selling/buying on here.

How fast a knife will sell all depends on the desirability of the knife vs the price you set.

Selling a highly desirable knife at a lower price will likely result in an almost same day sale.

Selling a less desirable knife at the same or similar price to retailers means you might be waiting a long time for an interested buyer.

There is pretty much always multiple people browsing the Exchange section of the forum so there are plenty of eyes on sales threads. I figure the speed of sale will all be based on the knife and how you want to price it.

Blade forums has a membership because, as i assume, it is for knife enthusiast from all over the globe to mingle. Therefore there is a paid membership to sell here. BF wasnt created as a buy/sell forum...thats just a perk.
Personally, if someone is just here to sell, and doesnt join in conversations, ill pass on buying from them. Just how i feel. There are many good, great, and knowledgeable folks here on BF. Put in some time learning from others and joining in conversations. Learn the hobby and love it. Then start selling/trading.
Just my honest opinion.

The paid membership makes sense considering how much better of a place it is for knives than instagram, ebay, reddit, or facebook. In my first year here i probably sold over 20 knives, so 30 bucks a year seems like nothing at all. Especially since that includes no fees and much less garbage than i have to deal with on facebook.

Dont use Friends and Family, contribute to the forum, and youll be fine.
