How quickly do knives typically take to sell on the forum here?

I'm active in several groups but for sales nothing compares to BladeForums. Just posted four beautiful GEC stag knives the other day and all were gone in a hearbeat.

A paid membership has many perks besides selling and supporting the forum.

A well priced knife that is in demand can sell in seconds with multiple backup buyers. An over priced knife not currently in demand(no matter how good) can linger. Most items will sell at some price. I find BF a great place to buy and sell.

I've had many sales on here close within 1-2 minutes of posting. Put up a popular knife at a reasonable price, and it'll be gone almost immediately.

That being said, more esoteric stuff can take a while to sell, especially if you're not flexible on the price.

Are these the "random jackasses on Blade Forums" that Nick Shabazz once referred to:cool:?

I don't know, I don't follow Nick Shabazz nor watched any of his video's. I've seen jackasses on both ends, buying and selling. When I see a sales thread for a knife that has more than a few responses, it gets my curiosity up enough to read the thread. Sometimes people get plumb stupid over a knife.

I'm curious because ......

As a side note its a little disappointing imho that you have to pay to sell stuff here. That isn't the case at the WUS forums and people are selling watches that cost $10k and more.

There are plenty of members paying for Gold Membership who have sold nothing here on this fine forum, they do so to support it.

Your disappointment is duly noted.

So for example, I could sell these easily in minutes for $700, but if I put them up for $1000 it would take some time, maybe a month or so.

I don't know how watch forums function, its not my jam, but one of the biggest aspects of BF is the reputation collectively of the membership. Yes there are some abrasive personalities, and hurt feelings from time to time, but scammers and con artists get run out of here hard and fast. If that is important to you, then by all means, pay the premium and good selling. If not, there is always reddit. The reality is that there is a payment to be made at some point, no matter what, either the ebay fee, BF membership, or getting ripped off. At some point the piper is paid.

I've been going the opposite route. If I see more than a few responses, I figure there's a lot of interest in the knife and it may not last long, or it's selling at a high price. I look for the posts with no response to see what's going on, and figure the seller isn't having much luck and may be willing to bargain. As always, YMMV.

Haven’t sold a lot so far, but I’ve had em go in minutes to never.
Depends on knife, price and visibility. Seems the higher end knives go quicker if they’re well discounted.
I’ve got brand spanky new budget knives for sale way below what you can buy em for and nobody’s even asked about em.
These, in particular, should probably go to FeeBay. But then, by the time FeeBay and PayPal are done raping me with fees, was it worth it?

So this leads me to another question about selling knives: what do you mean by "well discounted"? How much of a loss is typical? Lets use a regular knife like a Spyderco PM2 as an example (just a normal production model)...assuming you were selling one in excellent condition with the original packaging - how much of a discount would you have to list it for in order to sell it within a reasonable time frame?

Way too many subjective variables to give a definitive answer.

10% under retail usually wont move as fast as 25% under and neither will usually move as fast as 40% under, yet all could move within an hour or sit on the boards for a week. Depends on the knife, your price*, pictures, description, the buyers that see your ad etc.

Also, what is a reasonable time frame? For some that could be same day if they're looking for a quick sale. Others may not care if their item doesn't move for a week or two because it's mostly up there for trade bait.

*"Well discounted" to one person could very well still be outside another's comfortable spending range.

Average time is 91 minutes...give or take...depending on circumstances...on an average day...depending on the weather...

Gold Membership is less than $3 a month or 10 cents a day. It’s a no-brainer — you get to be around other knife enthusiasts, a great community, and the ability to sell some knives that don’t make the cut. Cheaper than Netflix and Amazon Prime....and I’m willing to bet you have one or the other.

With that said, a PM2 in the condition you mentioned would probably fetch 70-80% of retail IMO.

Thanks, this is kind of the answer I was looking for and kind of what I expected. I wasn't looking for precise answers here guys, I just wanted to make sure you didn't have to sell knives for less than half their retail price in order to sell them (like you do with some products).
