How safe to buy from here

I've never bought anything from this forum. Was wondering how reliable/safe it is to buy from the member here? Has anyone had an experience where you paid for an item but the seller just took your money and ran?

Bad apples are rare but do exist. I have an ignore list I never talk about.
I have had 200 positive transactions about. And maybe 2 or three where I or a seller made a mistake. And then things were fixed.
Most guys are good to go.

If you have a bad feeling do your research first

Generally, yes with no problem. Just check a seller's feedback (click their username and open the Feedback tap at the top left). If you have someone with many transactions and all positive ratings (which is pretty typical around here - lots of really good folks on the Forum), then no worries.

For me (tons of transactions, 100% positive feedback, done several giveaways, no reason not to trust me) when I'm dealing with someone with less than five transactions (especially if they are fairly new to BF), my rule of thumb (and I know other s do this as well) is to require the other party to pay or ship first. Don't be offended by that if it's requested on your first couple deals. It's very likely that down the road, once you're established as one of the good guys, you may ask the same thing of some future newbie.

Happens from time to time. It's pretty rare. When that happens the bad traders ip gets tagged and they get banned.

Most folks don't want to get banned as the forum is way too fun to be a part of if you love knives. The only other online community where I've seen this many people willing to put so much money into their hobby while having fun and being responsible is the Rock Iguana community that I'm apart of. Alot of reptile keepers are nuts but the Rock Iguana folks are all normal for the most part.

I haven't done a ton of purchasing here, but the times I have have gone perfectly smoothly. When you look at the for sale section you can see the member's feedback score over on the right, and you can click on it for a detailed list of their transactions. Also, the dedicated feedback section is a good resource for finding out who's naughty and who's nice.:D

edit: Derp...a couple of posts made while I was writing mine. Sorry for the "repeat" info.

I have been a member of this forum for several years and have had 100% positive experiences. As long as you pay with Paypal you have buyer protection in the event an issue arises, but most anything can be worked out with good communication between parties:-)

I'm curious, GRENHOP. Are you looking for or at anything in particular, or is it just a general question?

And, by the way, WELCOME!

Thanks for the welcome, link2derek. I'm not looking for anything in particular. Just wanted to be more familiar with the forum.

I did not even think twice, even though I should have, when buying my first knife on BF. Feedback score and PayPal "goods" is how I decide now.

I've been here 16-ish years.... never had a problem.

I've had members that weren't familiar with me, and wanted me to send money order before they shipped.

Risky? Maybe. But I've had 100% satisfaction in all of my dealings.

Take a look at feedback, maybe peruse Good Bad & Ugly forum, but I'd say you'll be just fine.

I've been a member here for over a year. I can say I've had nothing but positive experience either buying or selling. But I've had the "I'll take" or "can you hold til friday" type request and they go radio silence. So that happens but I don't let it get me down I just move on. Look at their feedback and use Paypal. But for the most part there are really great members and then there are ones to run from. Just my $.02.

I can attest to that. My first transaction (a trade) went exactly as you stated. Felt weird shipping a knife to someone I don't know in hopes that they follow through and ship the trade back! But everything went as expected! No issues in the few I have done.

With the feedback and length of time indicated for sellers....and by using PayPal when possible, the odds are very small you will run into a real problem buying from BF members.

I would certainly rather buy from a Blade Forum member who lays out all the warts than some online megadealer who will be eager to ship me the knife people keep returning.

I've also had nothing but positive sell/trade experience with other forum members. Some won't deal with you unless you have X numbers of transaction - but in my case I give everyone a chance. There was a time when I was new here and I appreciate the members who helped me accumulate positive feedback by letting me buy knives.

Unless it's a member I've dealt with before, I will always proceed with caution and make sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. :)

have fun and good luck knife hunting

Good info and nice to know. As a new member and fellow knife-lover, l'm sure I will want to participate in the Marketplace at some point.

I was a member for years in an online cigar community and conducted lots of trades, sales, purchases and ran a couple of box passes. 95% of the transactions were flawless, but I got scorched a couple of times with bad checks, etc. You live and learn.

THIS.

I only requested four purchases from established BF members. All four times I was treated politely, promptly, and honestly. I feel appreciative and definitely look forward to more transactions in the future.

I've bought a number of knives and never had a problem with a purchase. I try to look at the seller's history to see if they appear to be reliable. There is a forum here where people post about bad experiences so you can search that forum for the seller.

I did have a bad experience with a trade and finally wrote about it in the feedback forum. Maybe that will help a future buyer avoid a potential problem.

Take the time before buying to read the Feedback forum, that will generally give you an idea on the folks that have had issues with others.
Always use PayPal goods/Services. It protects everyone involved. Generally, someone with good feedback will be easy to deal with, but don't rely solely on feedback scores.
Read a potential sellers profile to see where they post. That will give you an idea if they're flipping knives or a contributing member.
