How thick do you want your 15N20?

I'm considering having 15N20 rolled. A lot of you have shown interest in .100 or heavier. Unlike what we've been using, it would be pickled and annealed, which would make it easier to cut. Seeing as you're the guys using it I figured I would ask you before I made any hasty decisions. I will probably have it rolled in 2 sizes to begin with.

What say ye?

I'm not sure I speak for anybody other than myself, but from my perspective which is strictly from the standpoint of making damascus, there are two things that would make it convenient;

1) That it be as thin as possible; the more layers I can get into the initial stack the better.

2) that it sync up in size with an available dimension of 1084.

The thicker the better(within reason; not talking about 1/4"). Not everybody wants to only use it in damascus. 15N20 makes great knives all by itself.

Makes it attractive to us stock removal guys at 1/8 to 3/16. I'd definitely try some this summer :)

I would have to go with .100 on the dot. But, if it ends up thicker, i will happily forge it down to where i need it :)

Aldo, i think that the 1/8 and 3/16 would be good because some people would probably want to use it for reasonably priced bushcraft and field knives that have that extra impact resistance and don't have the tricky HT that some L6 does.
The 1/8 might also be good for mixing with 1/4 1084 for very high contrast damascus. I have had to double up the .49 stuff before. Or you could go with say .103/113 and 3/16 and keep both the bushcraft and kitchen guys happy.

Easy enough to take 1/4" down to whatever is needed. Not so much the other way round, so I am with Tom on this one, voting .250" and, also some at .125" X 2.0" to help ease the way for our stock removal bros.

Good on you for the efforts Aldo.

I was thinking about this and I occurs to me that the stuff can be cut to any width you might need after rolling. The thickness is the thing that Aldo has to decide on while the stuff is still in a big 2 ton ugly lump.:D

I'd like to see some 3/32" 1/8" or somewhere in that range.

I need to call but taller pieces would be nice too, 2.5" and 3" for machetes. The thickness already available would be nice for that... I bet the kitchen knife makers would also like some 2.5".

geez I hate to be the odd man out on this but I'd really like it thin like .050" or even less..... I like dark blades and using thin 15N20 with sizes of 1/8 or 3/16" 1080 makes a real dark blade. I always use 1/2 the thickness of the 1080 when I can and thinner would be even better. :eek: :D
