how thick is .200"

It's all happening so fast ! at 14 17/64 furlongs per fortnight .Don't forget scientists have been using metric for about 150 years here !! "a smidge", "a pinch" , "good enough for gov't work" I remember is shop class in HS a poor student made a drawing with thick lines .The teacher , almost screaming, said where do you measure from ,this side of the line , that side of the line , or in the middle ??? Then there's " the measure of a man " !! The following three words are sometimes confused . See dictionary to understand ; metrologist, meteorologist, metallurgist !

It's Metrologist, mete, and IR1, and you're the Metallurgist, and neither of us do the weather...:D
1/5" = .2"
Measurement is my game.;)

And to think...

I heard that size doesn't matter, but most of us will come in out of bad weather....

Are you, in the US always using that 1/multiplicity of two method of measuring whet in comes to small distances? What if you want to divide an inch to 3 equal pieces? How many it would be in 1/n*2".?
I'm using metric system in my country but, since I’m "in knives" I’ve learned to convert inches, feet and other measurements to mm, cm and m. I've also remember hove many grams an ounce is.

No.
To divide 1 by 3, you divide: 1/3, and there is no 1/n*2, only close approximation.
So how do you divide 25.4 mm(1") by 3?
1 oz Avoirdupois = 28.35 g
1 oz Troy = 31.103 g
1 oz Apothecaries = 31.103 g
1 oz Ancient Roman = 27.168 g
It's also helpful to know an ounce of gold is heavier than an ounce of feathers, but a pound of feathers is heavier than a pound of gold...:D

I brought that up because I worked with a Metrologist and asked how he became one . He had been in the Air Force as a meteorologist and the company was looking for a Metrologist .The employment people didn't know the difference !!!

I've changed my mind.....this thing is fleshing out to have some decent humor......

is that a troy OZ or the regular kind

and if you talk about ton's be sure you state if it's a short ton or a long ton :D

OK test time... how many troy OZ is there in a long ton..and a short ton : :)

I stand corrected :D Now you know why I didn't offer up any math quiz.

Oh, and I don't drink coffee. ;)

STR

Dan , have they changed it ? It used to be short ton , long ton and metric ton [tonne] . And what about the carat ? It's only a seed !

I don't like metric :grumpy: :)
Karat, Carat, it depends on if it's gold or diamond you're talking about ;)
planting diamonds don't seem to grow very well :grumpy: :D
only decaf here I'm allergic to caffeine :(

Avoirdupois oz: 28.34952 g (feathers) (the "regular kind of oz")
Troy oz: 31.10348 g (gold) see? gold is heavier!

Avoirdupois pound: 453.5924 g (feathers) 16oz/lb
Troy pound: 373.2417 g (gold) ...and gold is lighter! 12oz/lb

short ton: 29166.67 oz troy
long ton: 32666.67 oz troy
tonne (Metric ton): 32150.75 oz troy
1 tonne = 6.0225e+29 amu (atomic mass units) more stuff you really need to know, huh?

1 carat(metric) = 0.2 g
1 carat(troy) = 0.205 g

1 zentner = 0.5 centner  thought I'd just throw that in....:D

So, if .200 inch is the diameter, what is the circumference?
Ah, a tricky question...
Depends on the shape...
flat with 0 thickness: .4"
round: .62831853"
square: .8" (if you assume the diameter to be the same as the side, and not corner-to-corner)

Does it really matter how big .200 is when you're gonna mark it with chalk and cut it with that ax from Harbor Freight?
(no offense)
