how thick is .200"

Sometimes it's just "looks good to me", or "close enough for government work"...
Mark it twice, and cut between the lines?
Eyeballing is sometimes the best way.

I often use metric for either precise measurements or just for simplicity. I'll usually end up with things being so many fractions of an inch in one direction and so many mm in the other...

Which would you rather add?
1 1/2+3 7/16+ 2 5/8 + 5 3/32 "
-Or-
11 + 72 + 38 + 5 mm

Celcius scale gives a false sense of logic. after all, it's based on the phase changes of water. However, farenheit is based on the maximum and minimum normal temperatures for a temperate zone. This makes the more abstract farenheit more intuitive.

As far as measuring and planning goes, I often get way too caught up in it. For the thrower that I'm working on, I'm trying to keep it more art than science. If nothing else, it will give me something to improve upon next time.

Is it "measure twice cut once" or "measure once cut twice"?

Around here it's "measure once, cut three times". My motto is, "If at first you don't succeed, you must be a Patton". :D :D
What was it Red Green said? "If it's not broken, then you're not trying"? :D
