How to clean up old ceramic sticks?

Cameo Stainless & Aluminum Cleaner, and/or Barkeeper's Friend.
Same aisle at the store as Comet, etc.
Both have mild acids which remove the metals.

Scotchbright+comet(abrasive powder cleaner) then dishwasher. That works for me. makes my sharpmaker and Ceramic Rods like BRAND NEW.

Comet or Ajax, same as I use on the ceramic toilet!

Seriously, I've never had a problem with Comet, water and a terrycloth rag.

Bar Keeper's Friend, you can smell it working.

Its the only thing that I have used that will bring them back to like new condition.

Smell it work.....LOL, now that funny.

I've found that Lansky Eraserblock works like a charm on my ceramic products. They work exactly like a normal eraser and doesn't need water or anything else to work.Afterwords, all that's left are erasings and perfectly clean ceramics.Best part is the process is extremely efficiently and quick;leaving a very small but easily cleaned up mess.

Everything swuggested works, the Rust Eraser works best, wherever you buy it. If you wash the rods and allow them to dry you may end up with rust in the pores of the rods and you will NEVER get it out

I use Comet cleaner or another abrasive one with fine pummace in it... works well!

Thats what I use. Shake comet into a pile in my hand and add a little water. Rub the sticks back and forth with the comet, rinse off and you are as good as new.

I use a regular pencil eraser on ceramic rods. It works great. No water, no cleansers, no drying.

I just bought the Lansky Eraser Block for my sharpmaker and wow it works great.Restores them to new! No jokes it works great.I was using comet and a scotch pad before, and the Eraser Block blows that away.Clean up is only the eraser dust, much easier to deal with, way Less of a pain. Now I'll clean my rods after each use.

Just think, why not buy something that is strictly designed to restore your rods back to new??

Best 7 bucks I've ever spent! :thumbup::thumbup:

Dishwashing liquid under hot water....a wee bit of light oil does not hurt...and if you want very fine polish then rub a pencil over the surface prior to final hone strokes.

The Eraser Block is not only good for cleaning ceramic rods but also for removing light rust.I once left my cold steel machete on my freezer for a couple of hours wet, after I had done some yard work with it and cleaned it.I came back and was totally surprised the edge was completely rusted(orange coloured). The first thing I did was dry it off with a paper towel and then proceed to used the eraser block to remove the rust.I was amazed at the speed and ease that the rust was removed;after only a few light passes perpendicular to the edge and gradually working towards the tip.

Or Maybe this nothing to brag about.
